“great beach”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

A huge beach with almost no one on it in mid Sept. Some nice local cafes and restaurants nearby. Big waves so a few surfers about but great for families. Just keep an eye on the kids.

“super beach!”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

This is really one of the most beautiful beaches at the Algarvian west coast. You can go for a walk in the dunes, going south, and find the archeologocal ruins of an Arab monastary.
The village has some lovely restaurants as well. All this is only half an hour drive from the beautiful guesthouse Monte Rosa in Barão de S. Joâo.

“Beautiful unspoilt surfing beach. The hidden Algarve”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

This is a stunning, clean, safe, uncrowded, and excellent beach, on the Western Algarve coast.

No shopping malls, no rip off cafes, just a beautiful sandy beach, with a small village supporting it with a couple of small restaurant/bars with great fresh fish and inexpensive beer and wine.

Stunning sunsets, great surf, soft sand. Go there.

“Beautiful beach”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

We stayed in the village of Monte Clerigo so spent a lot of our holiday around the beach. It's a beautiful setting, a long wide arc of clean sand with dramatic cliffs at either end and a pretty little village behind. The beach is big enough that even at high tide in high season it never feels crowded, although it can get busy. There can be some treacherous currents, but there are lifeguards on duty with safe swimming areas clearly marked. There are good waves for body-boarding or surfing. Unusually for a beach there is disabled access with specially designed beach wheelchairs available.
There are three beach cafes, we ate mostly at O Sargo which on the surface may look the least interesting, but provided good cheap food and coffees with free wifi. The only reason the beach hasn't got 5 starts is because none of the restaurants are that special, although the Gabriel on the headland at the Northern end of the beach is a great seafood restaurant if you're looking for something special.
