“overpriced and inauthentic”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

Yes the teabags are great, the sound of cowbells at dusk gives a sense of the magic of the area, but sorry to say that for the price, this place left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth. Very expensive, slightly soul-less and not a Portugese person visibly employed in the entire hotel. Why is this? All 'eco- this and yoga that', but again very little evidence of eco-friendly household products or even free range eggs on the menu. Dissapointing, and feels like a profit-driven enterprise by a business (that has houses and villas across the Algarve and Florida) rather than a happy family-run or indeed Portugese place.

Dear Greenandbluetoo,

We are very sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay at Casa Fajara, but are glad for the review so we can improve and make future experiences at Casa Fajara more delightful and hopefully with an immense satisfied feeling! We would of course also like to take this opportunity to explain ourselves on a view of your comments, we hope this is ok with you and hopefully will explain some of it. As for the first: it is a pity that during your stay there were no Portuguese colleagues working, we do have a rotation of colleagues and sometimes they are Portuguese and sometimes from any other part of the world, as we do love to have people working here from everywhere just like our guests are also from all different nationalities and we have to say that we are always happy to see the surprises on our guests faces when they get spoken to in their own language. As for the Eco, could you please let us know where it says this, as we don't and shouldn't be advertising as an Eco hotel. What we do contribute and is being seen as Eco is towel programs and separating all our disposal so it can be recycled again. Slowly we are working on becoming more & more eco, but as long as we are not fully capable of carrying this label we do not want to advertise with it and would be very happy to change this if we by accident have. Yoga on the other hand is one thing we do offer, we have a very renowned Yoga retreat center holding their retreats at Casa Fajara (already coming back for a third year) and we have a range of good Yoga teachers around the area that give great classes at Casa Fajara. At the moment we are also building a new lovely Yoga Shala apart from the hotel, so the Yoga experience can be expanded. But it is not only Yoga we offer, we want to be a family hotel where everybody can enjoy themselves and where we can hopefully offer something for everybody's needs from surfing, hiking, fishing, nature guiding, painting, of course Yoga and a whole lot more. As for your last comment we do indeed also have a few apartments in the beautiful valley of Vilarinha, 1 in Lagos & Figueira and we have a few apartments in Florida, but not as a profit-driven enterprise, but for the love of these places. Having travelled there for many years and so making a dream come through of being able to enjoy and give back to these beautiful places that have stolen our hearts.

We really hope that we have clarified it a bit and hope even more to be able to greet you again in the future as one of our guests!

Very kind & sunny regards,

Mel, Johnny & The Casa Fajara Team

We stayed 1 week at Casa Fajara in July 2012. We really enjoyed our stay. Surroundings are very quiet and beautiful. We really appreciated quality of the service and our room was particularly comfortable with a beautiful view. This place is excellent for relaxing.

Absolutely agree with all what has been written. The hotel is located not far from an amazing beach, Amado, where even if you are not into surfing, you can easily spent the whole day. A specil word about the friendly staff – you guys were really helpful – thank you!

We've just arrived back from an 11 night stay at Casa Fajara which was truly amazing.

The hotel is beautiful, tucked back from the small town of Carrapateira in amongst stunning landscape. The rooms are well decked out with rustic furniture, a TV and we had a small kitchenette area and brilliant balcony. The pool is great and sheltered from the breeze that was present on a few of the days we stayed. They also have a lounge room which has a communal TV, big leather sofas and a small honesty bar.

The staff were amazing. Jonny was great from the minute we arrived at 2.30am!!! Everyone made us feel really welcome and we even joined one of Cheyne's yoga classes down on Amado beach.

We spent the whole stay surfing between Amado and Arrifana beach. Just a warning, if you visit Arrifana beach don't park down the winding track after June 1st as the police clamp any non resident vehicle. We found this out the hard way! Also if you drive the track between Bodeira and Amado, which had 2 restaurants on it, be careful of potholes! We got 2 flat tyres that night!

Over all a wonderful holiday that was super relaxing in beautiful hotel.

Just returned from a wonderful stay at Casa Fajara with friends and family to celebrate a birthday. The hotel is absolutely lovely, stylishly rustic with individually designed bedrooms of lovely quality.
Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff and Johnny was just wonderful.
Can't wait to return and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and lovely walks.
If you're looking for a peaceful break in a lovely hotel off the beaten track then Casa Fajara is the place to go.

Room Tip: Every room is lovely.

We have not put a review on trip advisor before but this was such a lovely place we feel we must. 28 of us have just spent 4 nights at Casa Fajara to celebrate the 50th birthday of one of the party. The whole place is lovely, set in a rural location but only 10 minutes walk into the village. There is a beach 10 minutes drive away with a surf school and hire shop for wet suits, surf boards, body boards etc. The rooms are all different, tastefully furnished and lots with their own balconies and lovely views. The good sized swimming pool was cold (it was April!) but was ok after a couple of lengths and there are lovely walks in the area. We had a yoga class and the holistic massage was fantastic! Johny the manager was wonderful as were all the staff, nothing was too much trouble and he put up with our dancing, singing and staying up late. There were fires in the lounges which made them the perfect places to relax. We ate in the hotel every night and by far the best was the fish evening - the selection of seafood served throughout the evening was delicious.
