My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Alp for 6 nights over Christmas 2013 in a Japanese style room and loved it. The Hotel is ski-in, ski-out, close to all the bars and restaurants and the rooms have great views over the mountains. The hosts are lovely and help you out with discounted lift tickets, advice about restaurants and spots in town and lots of other helpful tips for the town. We loved the massive buffet breakfast and the onsen - would highly recommend!

Myself and 3 friends of mine stayed at Hotel Alp for one week in January 2013. Our second time in Japan skiing, but first in Myoko. We stayed in two rooms, twin western style accommodation, which is fairly typical of what you find back home in Aus. The rooms were good size for Japan standard. The highlight of the stay are the hosts, Satomi and her husband, who are very welcoming, and go right out of your way help you (including picking us up from the train station). Satomi has great knowledge of local restaurants and towns further afield if you are going on a day trip, plus gives you vouchers for lift tickets. Of course, English isn't their first language, so a bit of patience does go along way. It is disapointing to see some Aussies come to Japan expecting something like back home.

Hotel is pretty much ski in / ski out (as long as you have the Onsen lift pass). Has skis, boots, storage area, but no drying room to put wet ski gear (Yes i know this is Japan and it's all JAPOW (Japanese powder), but it must have been my bad luck as during my stay i had 2 rainy days in the one week! I've been told they are lucky to get one per season.) So somewhere to dry gear would have been good.

The only other comment (neither good or bad) is that there is no common lounge area (beside the Onsen) for people to hang out and meet others after a days skiing. So you will spend most nights out at the local bars as it gets a bit much spending all night in the rooms.

Lovely little hotel in a nice village with great skiing. This was our third ski trip to Japan but our first to Myoko - will definitely not be our last. The Alp is a great little hotel run by a really helpful couple - they greatly assisted us when my husband had to seek medical assistance for what turned out to be fractured ribs - could not have done this without their help.

We had a western room which was very comfortable and spacious (by Japanese standards), the onsen really good, breakfast great and the location superb. My only complaint would be that they had a couple of young people doing the room cleaning and it often left a bit to be desired however this did not detract from a comfortable stay in a prime location - will be returning to both Myoko and to the Alp next season

I stayed at Hotel Alp for 3 weeks in March (near the end of the season) in a Japanese style Tatami room and loved every minute of it. All rooms have access to a shared balcony and they are quite big and kept perfectly clean. Aside from the comfy layered mattress on the floor there is a low table and chair and a tv set, though all channels broadcast Japanese networks only. Breakfasts were slightly different each day with toast, a cooked egg (poached or scrambled) with cooked slices of ham, a small green salad and some fruit, butter, jams, coffee, tea etc. I ate dinner there a few times (when I did not want to venture out) and that was a four course meal consisting of a cold cuts starter, soup, main course of cooked meat and a dessert, all very delicious. About 150 meters down the road there are a decent selection of restaurants serving Japanese and western food, (the Italian restaurants makes excellent Italian style thin pizza's and the burger shop is a winner, as were all the local Japanese restaurants I tried). Sadly there is not a great coffee shop in town yet, but for a half decent brewed coffee I'd recommend you bring your own or try 'Hunter' restaurant or the restaurant at the base of Kanko resort next door. Also if you purchase the 4 resorts ski pass you can ski on all the Mount Myoko resorts and I would highly recommend this as its easy to cross to the Kanko resort next door via the slopes above the Hotel Alp or take the hourly bus service to one of the other resorts for a bit of variety. I went to learn to snowboard and took 3 afternoon lessons at the nearby Myoko Sports Ski school and was comfortably able to ride all the intermediate runs after a few days. Satomi and her family are wonderful hosts and will help organize any train/bus trips etc you might want to do, for example I had a day of outlet shopping in Karuizawa, which is under two hours away from Akakura Onsen and has a ton of good shops. Also the shared onsen baths at the hotel are great, and only once on my visit did I have to share. I will certainly be back to stay at the hotel again, I can't wait!

Room Tip: The Japanese rooms are bigger but you need to be comfortable sleeping and sitting on the floor.

Our group of 6 adults greatly enjoyed our 5 night stay at Resort Hotel Alp, Myoko Kogen. Satomi was so welcoming and helpful and her husband collected our luggage from our previous hotel ( see review of Hotel Moc) so we could ski all day and do " ski check in", a first for us! We had Western rooms which were small but comfortable, with an ensuite. The Onsen or Japanese hot spring water spa was fabulous, especially the outdoor section. Relaxing in the outdoor Onsen with views of snow laden trees and beautiful mountains while snow was gently falling was a wonderful, magical experience. The hotel has a lift, very nice food and Satomi sells discounted lift tickets. It is only a short 5 to 10 min walk to the main street of Akakura Onsen, where we had excellent Japanese dinners at great prices. Satomi advised us and helped us book. From the hotel it is a very short ski to the nearest chairlift or to the bus stop to access other resorts such as Suginohara. Myoko Snowsports, which provides English speaking ski/ snowboard lessons and outstanding ski/ snowboard rental is also just a short walk/ ski away. They have larger sizes which are sometimes not available in Japan. They also sent one snowboard/ boot set to Nozawa Onsen for one of our group who is very tall. Myoko Kogen was great for powder skiing,as long as one avoids the slightly flat sections.

Spacious Japanese style tatami room, truly ski in/out and a decent breakfast. Very helpful and friendly owners. Would go back, but might try a bigger ski town next time as eating and entertainment options are limited in Myoko.

We love the Alp and our dear friend Satomi. The skiing is great, the hotel is genuine ski in-ski out and Satomi is a welcoming hostess with good English. The Japanese rooms are large and while the ensuite bathrooms are standard Japanese modules, there are both indoor and outdoor onsens which are just the thing after a tough day on the slopes.
All rooms have balconies with magnificent views of Mt Myoko and the ski slopes ... perfect!
