Was a very nice Japanese home type experience . . . and Marina was SOOOO nice and sweet, she was unbelievably wonderful! She gave us LOTS of information, hand-made maps, and more!
Kitchen was WELL equipped (lots of dishes and pans, stove, microwave, hot water, mini-oven, etc.), had washing machine and dryer, and the place overall was charming. Keep in mind, however, you ARE staying in a typical Japanese type home, so the walls are literally paper doors, so there’s not a ton of privacy, we were worried about the security of our items, and you could hear everybody throughout the house and the neighbor’s alarm clocks sounded like they were in your own room! (earplugs help!) Beds were OK, and the place was pretty cold (March), but Marina was sweet enough to give us heating blankets and a hot water bottle every night.
Location was good if you want to go to Snow Monkey Park or a day trip to Nagano or Matsumoto. However, if your plans are to go to Nagano for a few days in a row, it’s a bit inconvenient and can get pricey to pay for the train back and forth. But Suzaka was a charming little town, and we were glad to have stayed here.
Overall was a wonderful “cultural” experience.More
