“Close to Eilean Donan Castle”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

My partner and I were travelling through the Highlands and since he asked me to be his wife at Eildon Donan Castle (I accepted) we decided to stay across from the castle for a night. There isn’t much around the area of Dornie and we didn’t wish to run around looking for somewhere to stay so when the inn keeper advised that he had one room left we grabbed it. It wasn’t a great room especially for 100 pounds (expensive) and the place most likely has some nicer rooms but we didn’t mind as it was somewhere to stay and we could see the castle from our table at breakfast.
Once again (on our travels) we came across a very SOFT bed, which was difficult to get comfortable as we kept rolling into each other in the middle. One bigger problem though was that at sun set and sun rise midges are prevalent in this area and it appears that our room wasn’t as sealed as it should be so we ended up sleeping with a few midges and having to spray ourselves and take some antihistamines. Breakfast was lovely and the staff were also really good.....but upon mentioning that we just got engaged we didn’t get much of a reaction from the guy at reception....

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the castle......

This trip was a surprise weekend away for us arrange by my partner. The hotel itself is tired but the welcome we recieved was fantastic. Our original room 10 was tiny with cobwebs around the window but were upgraded to room 5 with fantastic views and very comfortable bed. Breakfast was lovely but unfortunately the hotel wasnt doing any evening meals which meant we had to go out to the local pb where the food was excellent.
With a little more attention to detail and decorating this would be an outstanding little find. Would defo come back though. Apparently the current managers were winding down as leaving next week but didnt affect the hospiality shown to us.

Room Tip: Room 5 has stunning veiws comfortable bed although bathroom is still small Eat out at the Clachan B...

Spent 2 nights 1 couple stayed in not the most romantic four poster bedroom. Both our rooms were tidy but attention to detail of cleansing and dusting is lacking in some areas. Overall the hotel is very tired inrelation to maintenance, decor, outside lighting is a risk factor. Jennifer is very friendly and is probably this hotels saving grace. Menu choice limited and due to lack of atmosphere / background music I consider the dining experience over priced.

Very pet friendly our dog was made very welcome as were we and not isolated as often happens in pet friendly hotels.

Location is perfect for touring without having to change base just a pity Loch Duich Hotel is in such state of repair and rooms needing modernisation.

After reading other reviews on other websites I wondered what I was letting myself in for, but all in all I found the hotel to be full of character and atmosphere.
My room overlooked Eilean Donan castle and was warm and comfortable, and spotlessly clean.
The entrance hallway is somewhat old fashioned but I found this added to the charm and character of the hotel.
My only complaint is that the front of the hotel and car park is not illuminated at night, and on the three nights I came back late I found I was having to feel tound for the door handles to get into the hotel.
But all in all it was a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the castle

We stayed at the hotel for one night on our way from Isle of Skye. The hotel is charming, but a bit run down. The room was small, and so was the bathroom. Comfortable bed, nice view, but all in all a bit disappointing hotel.

Just back from a few nights at the loch Duich hotel in dornie . My husband and I stayed in room 5 which has a amazing view of castle no other hotel could match this .The landlady Jennifer was so friendly don't think hotel would have same feel if she was not there. Parts of hotel were very nice bits could be doing with upgrade but to be expected at old hotel. Food was lovely and breakfast was nice . Would certainly go back if Jennifer was there and her lovely dogs .

When we arrived in the car park they were no other vehicles and from the outside we thought the jolted had been closed for a fair time. On entering the vestibule you get a feeling that this is going to be a bad experience. We were greeted by a friendly young lady and given our room. Bearing in mind that a double room incl breakfast was only £90 you can't expect 5 Starr quality. The room was quite small and very basic but had tv and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was extremely small and shower was small and basic. This is an old building which is really needing a lot of money spent on it but it was clean. The bar was fine and had a nice feel about it although the drink was really expensive. The cooked breakfast was excellent and well served. Overall it was fine but not worth any more.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to a 4 poster bed room which was really basic so not worth paying extra for this. R...
