“The Loch Duich Hotel Under New Management Feb 2012”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2012

We had a lovely overnight stay at Loch Duich Hotel (recently under new management ) the hospitality of the new bar manager ( Michael Sorby ) was second to none , It was a busy Saturday night in the bar ,It was good to see the locals returning to the bar a good entertaining nite with a wee sing song and lots of laughter , we were served with a smile and good humour from michael nothing was a problem great effort was made to make sure we enjoyed our stay .
Our room was very clean, the bed very comfy and helped towards a good night s sleep , one or two wee points mentioned , Room door handle was a bit loose shower door a wee bit wobbly etc !! otherwise it was perfect , The scenic veiw from our window was amazin and most certainly made up for a couple of wee hic ups , It seems this bonnie wee hotel is getting back on track and you can see where the efforts are being made to make this hotel an enjoyable place to stay , We ll be returning soon to soak up the beautiful views of the West Coast and to enjoy the atmosphere of the Loch Duich Hotel Good Job everyone !!! a great start !!! see you all again soon !!!!

Room Tip: Room 10 has fabulous views

We have just had our wedding reception there and all the staff were really helpful and friendly and everything went so well.

The hotel is suited to the people looking to stay somewhere in a piece of history as the building is centuries old and has so much character but obviously does not carry the facilities of the modern "average and mundane" chain hotels.

This is not our first trip here and as long as the owners stay the same will not be our last !

Room Tip: If you want the perfect view of Eilean Donan Castle choose room 5 (The honeymoon suite with balcony...

I did not have seafood I had soup twice and beer in the pub. The place seemed to have an odd old odor. I don't think I would have enjoyed a stay in an room however with that ancient odor. I was able to peek into a room of a fellow tavern attendee staying there.

Room Tip: see the room before booking....

Thankfully we were only passing through on our way to Skye. The position of the hotel is fantastic - wonderful views of the lochs, but that is where it stops. We were shown 2 rooms and chose no 12. The curtains were too short and luckily it wasn't a cold night. The toilet seat was cracked, we didn't fancy using the shower! The wash basin was tiny, and as many others have found, if you bent over to brush your teeth you banged your head on the shelf. We decided to eat in after a long days travel. When we went downstairs the room was dark, we were on the wrong place but noone had tols us where to go. Food was Brake Bros or equivalent - expensive for what we had. Breakfast very ordinary - but I did take a breakfast bar for the journey! It was the most expnsive place we stayed during our week in scotland and by far the worst. Overpriced and very rundown. The owners either need to spend a lot updating it or sell up.

We were given Room 1 (that was after the landlady eventually found our name pencilled in her nearly empty diary)
It turned out to be a small, possibly single sized, room with a badly self assembled double four poster bed diagonally across it. There was just enough room between the end of the bed and the corner of the en suite washing facility for us to get thru sideways on. The ensuite was obviously an after thought added probably because they had to. The shower was small and grubby, the toilet was much the same and the wash basin was half size with a huge crack anad odd taps. I never did manage to get hot water out of the taps and we both resorted to brushing our teeth over the showeer tray (we couldn't use the basin as there was a shelf above it and my husband nearly knocked himself out when he bent over the basin)
The room was so cold, no heating had been put on for us despite the wet weather, that the bedding felt damp. There was nowhere to put our cases apart from under the bed, no fire safety instructions and no information book about the area. The television was small and the only chair was behind the wardrobe so the only feasible place to watch the TV from was the bed. This has to be the only hotel I have stayed in where the window was cracked from top to bottom. Our view, if we stood on tiptoe, was the backyard with the washing line and a near derelict garage. Even the plastic flower arrangement was dusty.
We couldn't eat in the "restaurant" as there were no seats left so we had our first meal in the bar. It turned out to be a mediocre pie and mash with carrots and broccolli. Breakfast wasn't any better, cheap cereals and thin white toast, take it or leave it, no offer of brown/wholemeal toast or even a top up of the tea or coffee.
Even the outside was unkempt, the mower had seemingly broken down halfway thru mowing the lawn and was just left there, all the plants in the pots were dead and replaced by an equally unhealthy crop of weeds.
The first floor corridors smelt damp and fousty, the stairs creaked badly and all the doors banged incessantly, even the front door had to be tied open with a bit of string attached to the hall radiator.
All in all a dark, dreary and depressing hotel that could be so much better, The Hotel Inspector would have a field day here but mine hosts would not appreciate it.

Room Tip: If there is a good room in this place I would like to know where it is.

We held our wedding reception here and Raymond, Caroline, family and staff could not of been more helpful, including them keeping the bar open until gone 3am. All the planning was done over the phone and email so could have caused problems but everything went smoothly. The meal for our wedding reception was excellent including all the table decorations. We chose this hotel for its warm and friendly atmosphere, which all our family and friends enjoyed.
