“Excellent Hotel”
Reviewed July 7, 2009

We just dropped in without a reservation as I was tired of driving. We got a really spacious room in which everything worked and which had a fine view of Loch Alsh. The receptionist insisted that we looked at the room before we checked in.
We ate some really fine fish in the bar, well cooked and great value. Breakfast contained everything you could think of to put on a plate and loads of it, agan really well cooked.
The staff were pleasant and efficient throughout.
And finally, because we had not booked I fully expected to pay the full rack rate and additional charge for breakfast displayed on the reception desk. The hotel came up with a significantly cheaper rate of its own accord. As in, they could have taken advantage of us but didn't. Bravo!

What a perfect weekend my husband and I had at this hotel which is beautifully situated with stunning views of the hills and loch. The scenery was only surpassed by the friendliness of the staff who couldn't do enough for us, it was just a pleasure to be there.

A special thank you would have to go to David the proprietor's brother, he made us feel so welcome. Public areas were bright contemporary and very pleasing and we had a double room which was comfortable spacious and clean. We dined in the restaurant twice during our stay and found the food to be of a high standard. The hotel was excellent value for money and we can't wait to go back there again. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone!

A big thank you to the Balmacara hotel!

Yours sincerely,

We arrrived at this hotel at about 2pm, and found that there was no receptionist although the main door was not locked. After hanging around for a few minutes the chef appeared and found our keys and directed us to the room, as she did for a family that arrived shortly after. The room was clean, but lacked any personal touch whatsoever. The door to the wardrobe was broken. To plug in the kettle you had to unplug the TV. A little later we went back to reception which was now staffed and asked for a key to the front door (there was a sign saying that the front door was locked at 11pm) There were none available and the receptionist lent us her own key. We decided to eat in town since the only menu was a set three course at £19.50 plus drinks, and we wanted something less formal. Breakfast was good...there were only the four of us and one other couple there.

To sum up, generally not impressed.

We found this hotel by scouring the internet, we then contacted the hotel direct to ask if there was any deals on offer, as the web-site encourages this, to our delight we were given 3 nights for the price of 2. We found the Balmacara to be a good value hotel near Skye, we stayed for a weekend and had a lovely time. We found the staff on arrival to be very friendly and helpful, the rooms were pretty comfortable for the money. The food in the dining room in the evenings was excellent, as was the full Scottish breakfast. There is also a bar attached to the hotel where you can have both simple bar meals or snacks, there is also live music some evenings which was very good too, if that's not your cup of tea, the hotel bar was very good and has a great friendly atmosphere. All in all I have to say we had no complaints about anything after our weekend stay at the Balmacara, and hope to return one day in the near future.

Having read some reviews on this hotel i was a bit worried, what a pleasant surprise.
the rooms were excellant with stunning views, the service especially from Alan and Sydney was second to none, would return to this hotel again with no hesitation, was sad we had not booked longer than two days.
all in all excellent! Our Son Is In a wheelchair and his needs were very well catered for.

Just back from a stay at the Balmacara Hotel. Extremely disappointed as not as made out to be on website. Is situated on main road and not all rooms face the Loch. Ours was at the back which had no view whatsover, looked on to the back of the new part, but was quiet. Breakfast was a joke - not enough room here to elaborate. Also private individuals beware - coach parties come here and take over!! Hotel extremely cold as well and pub food sounded great on menu but awful, having been told by manager that chef was awesome!!
