Whether you drive or take the train, you have to get out to Tonkatsumayu in Isehara! The tonkatsu is a amazingly delicious with portions that no mere mortal can conquer alone! Tonkatsumayu is located within easy walking distance of Isehara train station. There is one parking place in front and perhaps at least five or six parking spots behind the restaurant. The restaurant has a small seating area up front, which has tables and booths. The other two rooms are tatami mats. For Westerners not acquainted to Japanese style toilets, be prepared.
There are special plates, which I mentioned before, that are massive. I had the special/double hire katsu. This plate had two portions of hire katsu, a mountain of cabbage, miso soup, and rice. The menu is only in Japanese so it’s best to either be proficient in Japanese or bring someone who understands.
There are some pictures on the menu, but mostly it’s written Japanese. If you visit the website, you can get a better idea of how the portions look and what you might want to order. I guarantee that you won’t be hungry after eating here.
