On a trip to Hakone, the station in Tonami sold us a pass for Tokyo area instead of Liner seats so we missed our last train to Hakone, winding up instead at Odawara near midnight. We asked a taxi driver where a hotel might be and he angrily pointed us at a love hotel (we're two girls) before basically shooing us off. A police officer directed us to the official station hotel where we were informed that there were no walk-ins available, BUT he did give us a map with other hotels and that was how we found Posh. They were AMAZING. They got us a room, gave us breakfast for the morning (bread, yogurt, cheese, bananas and soup), and a hair dryer, for 5500 each for the night on seriously last minutes notice. Finding a place to stay last minute when you're in a city you've never been to before is normally ridiculously stressful, but Posh made the experience into a completely awesome adventure. In the morning all of the staff was super chipper and nice, and offered us orange juice before we left. Thanks Posh!

Room tip: Do ask for non-smoking. We didn't care cause we just needed to crash to get up for a train to Hakone in the morning, but the smoking rooms do smell.

The Hotel POSH is just a short walk from the East Exit (not the Shinkansen Exit!) of the Odawara Railway Station ---- at the end of a passageway (strangely decorated with images of Budapest!) in the street-level center of the Vierge Department store, the Hotel POSH is directly to the left.

This hotel is a well-run, very small "Business Hotel". It offers good value and a great, quiet and convenient location.

Given enough notice, the Front Desk can arrange for luggage to be delivered to Narita Airport via the ABC Delivery Service --- a lot less stressful than dragging suitcases onto the Shinkansen!

All of the major sights of the Odawara area are within easy walking distance ---- Odawara Castle, the Sagami Bay beach, many temples and shrines, the newly renovated Odawara Railway Station (for Hakone Free Pass excursions on the Hakone Tozan mountain train; for Shinkansen travel to Tokyo or Kyoto, etc.; for Odakyu Romance Car travel to/from Shinjuku; for the local Daiyuzansen; for the JR Tokaido trains to Kamakura, Atami, etc.; even Starbucks in the station close to the Shinkansen area).

From time to time, Western scientists/engineers attending meetings at Fuji Xerox stay at the Hotel POSH ( a cost-down strategy!), so the hotel is used to Western visitors.

For an authentic and fun taste of Japanese cooking, the Jyoran Robatayaki restaurant ("Farmhouse-style grilling") is right opposite the Hotel POSH ---- a casual dining experience, with food cooked to order on a central grill (an English menu is available).
