“Awesome!”
Review of Tojinbo Cliff

Tojinbo Cliff
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We went in spring and enjoyed the cliffs and rock formations very much. There was a strong wind but it wasn't chilly. There is a lot of flora there and the waters are clear enough to see the coral. Walking on the rocks (when dry) was an awesome experience. Apparently this is a popular place for committing suicide although I cannot understand why as it's hard to feel pessimistic when looking at the beautiful scenery.

The cliffs are really more like rock formations, but maybe that is just symantecs. We enjoyed walking around the rocks and did not really think we needed to take the boat tour.

The boardwalk was fun -- touristy, but "local" touristy, so it was fine. We had an ice cream and a nice seafood snack.

I would suggest going down the main walk for your souvenirs and snacks, but veering to the left once you reach the ocean for the more scenic and private path for a nice walk. Be careful when walking on the rocks. I would not advise going on the rocks when it is raining or very windy. It is a nice site, but I would not make a special trip just to see this location.

We visted Tojinbo as we drove from Kanazawa to Nagoya. It is in fact just one hour away from Kanazawa by car and is worth a stop if you are in the area. The park authority kept the place fairly natural, and one can walk almost down to the sea where raging waves are splashing against the rocks. Just be careful as the wind is also fairly strong.

There were about 10-20 shops and restaurants near the cliff but as we visited on a weekday, the area was not crowded. There is no park fee, and one can walk around freely which should take about 45 minutes including a short hike around all the rocks.

Gorgeous views out to the Japan Sea. Just a short drive/walk up the coast to ooshima, a small island linked to the mainland by a beautiful red bridge. This is visable from Tojinbo. There is a wide variety of foods to buy in the shops by Tojimbo, as well as trying the squid ink, sesame, or sea salt ice cream. If you want to see the unique rock formation from the sea`s perspective, then make sure you go during the warmer months and enjoy a stunning trip on one of the boats.
