Hotel Rich Time
Ranked #3 of 5 Hotels / Ryokan in Sakura
Reviewed July 23, 2013

This is the 3rd time I have visited this hotel. The first time was about 7 years ago and then twice in July 2013.

The hotel is very clean with friendly staff but is a little lacking in atmosphere. It is fine for a business trip but not the kind of hotel that you would choose to take your wife to for a romantic weekend.

It is less than 2minutes walk from Sakura station. There is a Japanese, Italian, Chinese & Steak restaurant within 2 minutes walk for the hotel. The hotel kindly gave me a map showing these places. There are 2 more Japanese restaurants the other side of the station about 4 minutes walk from the hotel. There is a 7-11 minimarket just past the station. A cold can of beer bought here is almost half the price of a cold beer from the hotel vending machine. 270 Yen as apposed to 500 Yen so it is worth the 2 minute walk if you fancy a couple of beers to pass the evening away. There is also a Supermarket & McDonalds just past the station about 4 minutes walk away.

The hotel staff are happy to call you a taxi if you want one but as the station is less than 2 minutes away there are always loads of taxi's waiting on both sides of the station.

If I have another business trip in the area, I would be pleased to stay at this hotel again

Room Tip: The 3 different room I have stayed in were all about the same so no real advice here.

As I was in this hotel for a business trip I can't judge on the pricing. The room was basic, small but comfortable although probably formerly a smoking one as the smell of old smoke was still noticeable. I had a room with the view on the station, which is probably not charming but the surroundings are not made of architectural highlights either. The perk is you're close to the train station, but the problem is that from 5 am you can hear the station announcements and the trains. Note that if you're jet lagged you'll be awake anyway. Handy bathroom "box", a plastic cube like on a boat. The bed was good, clean sheets. Only the decoration is dated and the carpet experienced better days.
As for restaurants in the surroundings, there are many which are good but you need to be with a japanese guest to be able to order. No menus in english and no pictures.. and no english speaking waiters either.
The breakfast at the hotel isn't amazing but avoids having another convenience food meal. The staff was helpful, could speak enough english to find what you want in Sakura and around.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back opposite the station might be less noisy.

The hotel is a 1 minute walk from the Sakura railway station, but surprisingly I didn't hear much noise. The hotel is quite old, and the amenities provided are quite basic. The toilet didn't have the advanced bidet system that is commonly found in Japan, so that's quite surprising. Room was quite cold and there was no heating/cooling equipment. Internet was through wired LAN, and they do lend you a cable if you don't have one. Across the parking lot is a 7-11.

Room Tip: There is a sushi restaurant to the left of the hotel (you still have to walk about five minutes acro...
