We dined at the superb Chaophraya Thai restaurnat in Manchester.
This place is superb, food amazing staff brilliant, beautiful inside you have to book at least 2 weeks or so to get in though book early

Although this hotel is handy for Old Trafford, the Lowry Centre and the Imperial War Museum it is purely a hotel of the functional variety.

Our room (1006 - on the 7th floor!) had a nice view over the water, everything worked but the matresses are VERY soft. It cost £60 for a Saturday night for two of us.

We stayed in this hotel for a weekend in January and it is a good hotel. Very clean and modern, nice staff, breakfast is a bit of a rip-off though but what don't we pay for convenience? :-)

The loaction is great for visiting Old Trafford (it's literally across the road from the stadium, we had a great view of it from our room!) or the Trafford Centre but if you wanna be in town all the time you can probably find a better located hotel.

All in all, I recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Machester.

I stayed at the Golden Tulip for two nights in April 07, whilst attending a conference at Old Trafford. Obviously, the best thing is the close proximity to the ground, literally a stone's throw. We had a twin room on the 6th floor, with a great view of Old Trafford. When booking ask for a room with a view of the stadium or the canal, as some rooms have a poor view over the industrial estate behind the hotel! I assume the hotel has recently been refurbished, as there was a definite smell of "newness" in the corridors!!! The room was a good size, perfectly adequate for two or three nights, was very clean and everything in good condition. The beds were a little on the soft side for me, but this is a personal preference.

I must say that all of the staff we came into contact with were extremely friendly and very helpful, from reception to bar staff. We did not have any evening meals at the hotel, but we did have breakfast both mornings. This was of the buffet variety and was of good quality and varied.

I would recommend the Golden Tulip, but be aware that it is not in the city centre - taxi to centre is around £7/8. However, I know that there is a Metro stop not too far away.

It is possible to get a two night deal for £85 and I think this is good value for the standard of the hotel.

Dull hotel from the outside.... looks like hotel where Alan Partridge lived... location sucked unless you wanted to go to Old Trafford or the Lowry.... we booked through Lastminute and it was a secret deal so we didn't get to choose....no good restaurants around and room service was poor... asked for a ham sandwich at about 10.30 pm and requested that they add cheese but they said they couldn't do this as the sandwiches were made in advance.... nice....

Staff weren't friendly apart from breakfast staff who were excellent.... breakfast was actually decent but at £13 each it was a bit overpriced for what it was...

Rooms very comfy but dull - all in all it was ok....
