Moved to the area recently and ate here a few times all of which have experienced good food, friendly service and very reasonably priced. Only thing I'd recommend is book in advance as the odd time we couldn't get a table but then again that was a Saturday night.

We were lucky enough to get a room at very short notice after having unknowingly been booked into a grotty hotel along the road, we were part of a wedding party attending a wedding outside Huntly. The staff were very accommodating at short notice and were told they only had a twin room available and it was one of their basic rooms. We were told they would get the room cleaned asap so we could leave our stuff there and head off to the wedding. The room was perfect, it was basic but it was clean, comfy beds, coffee facitlites and everything we needed for a nights stay. The staff could not have been more helpful. The only down side was some very drunk noisy guests at 5.30am at the morning we did phone to make them aware of this and it was dealt with. When we checked out we said that we were the ones who had phoned and apologised for wakening her up so early! We were very pleased that they gave us the nights accommodation at no charge and were very apologetic, this was a very kind gesure and really appreciated. We did not eat at the hotel but many of the guests at the wedding had eaten there the night before and said the food was fantastic. I cannot praise the staff highly enough and for a "basic room" it was nice.

If you are an American expecting Hilton or Marriott. This is not it. This is a quaint old hotel. The staff was nice. The bathroom was good, clean, and functional, but is not updated.
The hotel is right on the square close to the castle, country club, train station, pubs, shops, etc.
There is a pub attached to it but since we have friends who lived in Huntly we never went there.

Room Tip: If you are staying there over a weekend, you might want to stay on the backside. There are a couple...

Small restaurant but quite cosy, we had roast beef for Sunday lunch and it was very good, melt in the mouth, reasonably priced and service was good and friendly. An extensive menu with tastes from around the world. I would imagine that this hotel could be dated from what we saw but sure this is what gives it a 'Highland' historic feel.

Stayed here on business and can't say that I found many positives - very disappointing. My room was small and very much in need of decoration - stained carpet; mismatched bedding; curtains which didn't cover the window; grubby.dirty decor; tiny shower room with broken extractor fan. The shower room was as clean as it could be but so abused and also had a problem with mildew.
Food in the bar was adequate but old fashioned - tinned vegetables...which century are we living in? (and not drained properly anyway, so the water made the battered fish soggy underneath!)
Cooked breakfast was fine although lacking choice of other items - and coffee was poor
I wouldn't choose to stay here again - the whole building needs a major amount of work done on it - it would appear to be in a spiral of decline which must be difficult for any owners to turn around

I too have no idea where the others that rate this hotel stayed.
Our room was not heated when we got there. The receptionist changed that upon request. But the room was dark and needed renovation. The bathroom was as small as it could be. The toilet seat was not secured and nearly fell off. Flushing the toilet was like gambling: It worked only after multiple tries. The shower did not have any pressure whatsoever and the mold should be removed.
Nobody will want to know what lives in the carpets - the smell of them was really interesting. You will encounter that yourself once you get into that place.

The staff is really friendly - on the upside. But that doesn´t make up the "charme" of the past times that hangs in the place. That hotel needs a makeover - but that one would have been due 20 years ago.
If you have no other place to go you might stay there - it gives you cover from the rain.

Further: The "Cheers" bar next door that is run by the same proprietors is alright. But a burger should be garnished with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles - we needed to bring our own.

First off before commenting on the review we are a two star small hotel (not three star) and we have consistently asked Trip Advisor to change the description. This comment and others before it should be viewed with this in mind.
The author of the review had two rooms on the night in question. Both were budget rooms. If the choice is made (as in some other comments below) for a budget room in a two star commercial hotel then the room will not be as good as paying the extra for a standard room with more space and a full bathroom as opposed to a small shower room.
We do not preheat unlet rooms but each bedroom has an individually controlled electric heating.
The writer and his parents were both checked in and out by myself. When asked if they had enjoyed their stay they answered in the affirmative. I object to Trip Advisor being used as a complaints medium when there was ample opportunity to comment to us directly.
We are consistently awarded high scores within our category by both Visitscotland and the AA so I would challenge the contention that the room(s) were dirty. In common with other busy hotels our rooms will show signs of use towards the end of the season. This is generally attended to over the quieter winter months.
Finally we offer nine different burgers and all are garnished but not with pickle. Pickle can be ordered as an extra.
