“Super setting for a wedding”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

We've just returned from a friends wedding at Rowton and had a wonderful weekend. Whilst Rowton is a castle it retains an intimate feel, perfect for the relaxed celebration weekend our friends wanted to have.

Staff were friendly, efficient and more than happy to help with every request promptly with a smile. Breakfasts were tasty, service excellent and they were very happy to freshly poach eggs etc at request. Everything went very smoothly with the wedding and I know the team on site made things easy for the bride and groom. The grounds are a lovely setting for photographs and a stroll. A lovely weekend, thank you Rowton.

Room Tip: The bridal suite, room 1 is stunning! Ask not to be in a room over the entertainment if you're n...

I am a bit late writing this as i got married in february!

I cannot rate Rowton Castle highly enough, staff were all fantastic especially gareth who took charge of our day, but everybody from bar and waiting on staff to their reccomended dj, photographer and florist were fantastic.

Their menu was fantastic and everybody loved the dishes we had picked for our meal.

The rooms were superb and spotless, not one member of my wedding party had a bad thing to say about any one thing.

Unfortunatley as in some weddings, there was (quite embarrisingly) a family drama which could have got a lot worse but the staff there difused this straight away very calmly and did everything they could to make sure me and my husband were ok and enjoyed the rest of our day (as i was rather upset at this point!)

Thank you Rowton Castle!

Me and my husband will hopefully be back to celebrate our anniversary in February!

Room Tip: Any room you pick will be fantastic :)

We recently got married (14 Jul 12) in Shrewsbury and held our reception at Rowton Castle after a cancelation giving us 5 weeks to plan everything! We definitely made the right choice, when we chose Rowton. Having seen the castle online and visited to take a look around, falling in love with the place. Caroline (Wedding Co-ordinator) met us in the lounge area and took us through the details and showed us the majority of bedrooms (all of which are stunning). Her service (and that of her team mate Karen’s) prior to the “big day” was invaluable, very efficient and prompt responses to all of my emails etc. The list of local accommodation that the castle provided was also well thought out and Rowton Barns was very highly rated by our guests that we couldn’t accommodate in the castle. On the day we provided the table decor and left the staff vague details of the look we wanted. Somehow between the staff and Wendy Shaw (who did the flowers) the results were stunning. When we arrived back at Rowton from the church, we were met by Keith with a glass of bubbles and he then successfully took the strain and made sure everything ran smoothly, always being there when you needed him. The staff were amazing; very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. All afternoon we were always met with lovely smiles, clam assurance and the impression that our wedding was of the utmost importance. They were all first class and made our day really special. When it came to the wedding breakfast, the food was excellent both in terms of quality and quantity the Chef and his team did an amazing job and there was sufficient staff to ensure that everyones food arrived hot. We ordered a buffet for the evening and didn’t think it would be eaten, but again Rowton surpassed itself and everything went. In the evening, the DJ, Will Tudor was great and the mix of music was just right getting everybody dancing, even catering for some of the more unusual requests. The following morning, we never made it to breakfast, but the hotel staff had still plated us up something just in case. We can honestly say neither of us can cannot fault Rowton Castle and most of our guests said “it was the best wedding they’d ever been to”. If you are looking a beautiful venue, with outstanding staff, excellent food and the perfect start to your married life, then Rowton is definitely the place to choose. Well done Jack and your team, who definitely have a winning formula. We’ll see you all next year for our anniversary.

Thank you so much for everything.

Russ & Kia

Room Tip: All the rooms are beautiful. We had the bridal suite.......what a bath!

We stayed at the castle as part of a wedding party. The castle is beautiful and atmospheric. We stayed in a 4 poster room which was quite grand though the lighting was very dim. The bed was very comfortable but the room was very cold as was a lot of the public areas. The radiator in the room was warm only and considerably under heated the room. Also there was no hot water in the morning but did receive a call from reception to indicate this but we already found out and couldn't take a shower. The welcome on reception was good but only only one person on duty when a whole party was arriving was underwhelming as was only one member of staff on the bar later that evening causing me and others to wait up to 20 minutes to be served. Breakfast was nice and well cooked though you could have scrambled eggs only. Price was expensive at £169 for a double room b & b only there was no concession for the all rooms being booked for the wedding as was all the rooms in the hotel. there are no leisure facilities so purely self amusement only.So all in all there were too many issues with this hotel staffing and facility wise to entire me back for this price however it is a beautiful place and the location in fabulous... Would like to point out however all staff I did have dealings with were lovely....

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback regarding your recent stay at Rowton Castle. Guest comfort is paramount, therefore to compliment our ongoing investment in the fabrics, soft furnishings and facilities of the castle, 18 months ago we invested heavily in a new boiler system to run our central heating and hot water system. Unfortunately during your stay, a problem occurred for the first time, which ultimately led to a hot water issue on your morning of departure; please accept my sincerest apologies for this. Whilst it is of no consolation to yourselves, the issue has now been resolved.
With regard to staffing issues you raise, I would like to once again apologise as this is very much not what guests of ours usually experience. There are many beautiful hotels and wedding venues throughout the UK, and we take pride in the fact that the high levels of customer service we offer help to differentiate us and make Rowton unique. Certainly as a privately owned business, we constantly stress to our team that a guests experience should never be compromised by a lack of resources in a given location; this is most definitely not typical of the "Rowton Experience".
I was delighted to note that even under pressure of everyones arrival, the welcome at reception was good, and also that breakfast was nice and well cooked. As you will now be aware, the Full English breakfast the day of departure is served buffet style so that guests are catered for quickly and to ensure that a plentiful supply of food is available during the busy breakfast period. Our usual offering is for scrambled egg, however Fried or Poached is also available to anyone who requests them. It is unclear from your review as to whether you requested and were declined an alternative, however I have spoken to our team to ensure that everyone is clear on our offerings.
I was also pleased to read that you found your allocated bedroom "quite grand and the bed was very comfortable".
Very occasionally, due to circumstances that are unforeseen, or due to small timing issues, we may fall slightly short of the very high standards we set ourselves. This said, I am delighted that you still felt compelled to refer to Rowton Castle as a "fabulous place and location, beautiful and atmospheric", and that "all dealings with our team of staff were lovely". I can only conclude due to their lack of a mention, that the wedding meal, evening food and overall service of the wedding day were also as you would have expected for such a venue. Thank you once again for your comments, and I hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back at some stage in the future. With very best wishes.

I got married here on 25th October 2012, and only have praise. I was lucky enough to be able to stay the night before, which added to the experience as we had guests arrive early who e were able to meet for a most excellent meal in the restuaraunt. From the moment we arrived to look at the place it felt like home... the staff were always welcoming and open, the packages offered excellent value and from the moment we said yes it was a pleasure. The wedding itself went smoothly and without a hitch all the people recommended by the hotel were fabulous from Stephanie who played the harp beautifully, Wendy who did the most marvellous flowers, Claire the photographer and DJ Will Tudor who kept us dancing the night away... I cannot forget to praise the staff who got the rooms ready with such swiftness and ensured that everything was ready ... Not one person can be singled out from Karen and Caroline who were always there to help, to the lovely receptionists who helping stick my nail back on .. to Lewis who made sure it all went well.. The entire team are professional and ensured my wedding day was special and individual.. my guests are still talking about it and saying what a lovely experience.... the best wedding, one to be lived up to.... Thank you to the team at Rowton..

Room Tip: all are marvellous

We were guests at my niece's wedding on the 18th October 2012. It is everything you would expect it to be. I could find no fault in anything at all with this place. If you are considering to book your wedding venue here then do not hesitate!
My husband and I felt terribly spoilt with our room which was on the second floor. The grounds are wonderful and we took various photographs on our little walk around the little wooded area which has two ponds, it was a bit muddy then, so take some suitable footwear in case you want to have a look yourself.
Back inside..... the staff were all very friendly and we had no problems booking in or out. Everywhere you looked had all the wood panelling, art collections, beautifully carpeted throughout, chandeliers, sumptious furnishing etc etc... blah blah!
Rowton Castle is set way back from the road and is very private. Trouble is....do not stay too many nights as it is a big bump coming back down to earth and back to normality unless you're luckily enough to live in a place that anyway.
