“Refreshing freshwater pools, climb through nature”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

We really enjoyed our climb down (45 minutes) to the crisp, completely clear, freshwater pools at the bottom of Cavagrande del Cassibile. There are beautiful, bright green lizards crawling around along the way down. The way up was a bit more difficult (~ 1 hour), but rewarding once you make it to the top.
Another highly recommended, natural gem of Sicily.

“Gorgeous...”
Reviewed October 12, 2013 via mobile

Traveled as three families to include three kids in hiking carriers and one 6 year old hiking with mom.

Hike down was steep in places, jarring to the knees (so wear really good/stable shoes for knees and ankles). There was a handrail all the way down that was needed in some areas. The dads with carriers are in really good shape so they didn't have many problems going down but did have to worry about slick rocks. The six year old did really well going down.

The view on the entire trail was beautiful. The water is crystal clear and extremely cold but refreshing (fresh spring fed water). We did not swim this time as it was moderately warm outside and freezing water. The kids waded in the water. Many other families were swimming as well as eating lunch and picture taking around the area at the bottom. BEAUTIFUL!

The hike up was much more intense. Took between 45-90 minutes. Hiking sticks would have come in handy even with the rail. Not hard just long and steep. Really good workout. Everyone was tired at the top. The six year old did well but was certainly tired.

At the top is a bar. We went in around 1400 and all they were serving was water, Gaterade, a few sodas, cafe, and a large variety of ice cream bars. We certainly and guiltlessly enjoyed the ice cream.

Free to do the hike... Must check-in with guard shack before you start. You have to show documents and sign a waiver to hike and for accountability.

Delightfully beautiful trip! Highly worth your time!

“Magical experience!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Looking down from the car park at the top of this amazing canyon wasn't sure if I could do it!
But was so glad I did, yes it is challenging, both up and down, and you should wear good footwear, but it is a once in a lifetime experience. Take water, lunch and swimming things, agree with other reviewers to go down in morning and spend time at the bottom swimming in the amazing pools. The facilities at the top are very basic, which is a shame, as after the climb up, a little something sweet from the cafe would have been nice. The toilets are clean and adequate.

“Worth the Effort!!!”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

You do have to be physically fit for this trip, but it is well worth the effort. Go in the morning and take a light lunch and water. Swim, sun bathe and enjoy the views. Water is cool, but crystal clear. Wear sturdy shoes and watch your step.

“A bit of a walk, worth every step”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

Yes, it is a bit of walk down but the reward is amazing. Small lagoons separated by waterfalls for your swimming pleasure. Bring water and remember that going up is tougher. Showers (for 1 EUR) and toilets (free) are available at the top.

Small fee for parking (3EUR) which can be avoided if you just decide to park elsewhere. No entry fee for the actual park.

Finding it may be a bit tricky. From Syracusa drive towards Cassibile and Avola. Instead of going into Avola follow road SP4 towards Avola Antica and it will be hard (but not impossible) to miss the signs to Cava Grande (in stylish brown).
