“agritourismo in an historic, with style renovated farmhouse”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2011

it is a historic farmhouse with organic lemon plantage. The pool was not open because it was low season. The rooms are very stylish renovated, with an eye for the historic of the beautiful building. The owner is very friendly. The only minus point is that all rooms are arranged around the court, what looks beautiful but limited your privacy, bacause if you want to leave the door open everyone can look inside your room.

Great place with lovely decorated rooms. Everything is renovated and done with much dedication to design and details. Good place to make day trips and enjoy la dolce vita in the surroundings. Pool new and clean. Beach in walking distance. Very friendly and familiar service. Second stay for us at this place. And we will surely come back again!

Very nice place. It is on a quite place with a large garden of lemon trees. Large swimming pool. You can reach the sea by foot. Even there is a rocky coast, you can go to the sea if you want. Rooms are clean and very charming like on the castle. Breakfast is served outside in the courtyard. Staff is very friendly. There is also a restaurant within the agroturismo, that is opened just in the evening.

The surrounding is very nice, right in the middle of lemontrees and location is excellent. The big pool is also a plus.

However we feel this location wasn't as friendly and cosy as it has could be, when comparising this location with other agriturismo we have visited in Sicily. For example We have experienced a warm welcome from all other agriturismo on Sicily, starting with explaining what you can do in the surrounding and telling (at least) something of the agriturismo.

On Chiusa di Carlo our "welcome" was just handling the key over, hearing when breakfast would be and saying goodbye. We find price - service definitely not good in balance (it was our most expensive agriturismo of our total 6 visited agriturimo) with the least service

Conclusion: You like luxury, want to pay for it and want to be on your own: this is a good location. You like to experience the real Sicilian (family)culture of an agriturismo and enjoy the warmth of people and enjoy great views: stay away from here...

First of all, it is very easy to find! The entrance to the long driveway is almost opposite the Avola exit of the highway. The building is set well back from the road so it is very quiet. The whole site is surrounded by olive and citrus trees. Part of the main building is a restaurant (Vecchia Cantina Baroni) which is independent of the Agriturismo and has a separate entrance. Set away from the main building is a large swimming pool with stylish loungers.

The building surrounds an attractive courtyard where, weather permitting (it rained torrentially on two or three occasions during our stay in Sicily), breakfast is served. The guest rooms are arranged in a "U" shape on three sides of the courtyard.

The room we had booked was called Uliveto and is wheelchair accessible. However, we quickly found that, in spite of the fact that the room was extremely well furnished with beautiful designer fittings in the bathroom, apart from one rail with some coathangers in the wardrobe, there was absolutely nowhere to put our clothes and no shelf whatsoever in the bathroom to put toiletries on.

The next morning, I mentioned this to the owners and they kindly agreed to give us another room (Verdello) which had plenty of storage space (but also, frustratingly, nowhere in the shower to put the soap or a shampoo bottle (you end up balancing the soap carefully on the mixer tap!).

I feel that the owners understood the problem with the Uliveto room and things may well have improved by now.

We had a quick look into some of the other rooms and they all seemed to have a chest of drawers - the Uliveto situation must have been an oversight.

The Chiusa di Carlo is very well situated for visiting Noto, Siracusa, Catania, Etna and Taormina and we enjoyed our stay there.

As an aside, there are several new motorways in this area (Noto, Siracusa, Catania) which may not appear on your GPS - ours got thoroughly confused and we did some unwanted rural tourism on more than one occasion!
