It's a long drive from anywhere, it's quite small and the surroundings are not particularly nice. I've come across more spectacular waterfalls by accident. High Force in County Durham is better. But not as warm!

We were looking for a nice day trip out of Puerto Princesa and came across Estrella Falls. It was a bit of an undertaking from PP since we didn't have a car or motorbike but in the end, worth the trip. We took the bus from San Jose Bus Terminal to Narra. It was about 90 minutes and just as crowded as you might expect but if you get to the terminal early enough and can grab a seat by the window it's a great way to see some of the sights along the way.

The ride was bumpy and had some detours to even bumpier stretches of road but wasn't so bad. Once you get to Narra there are tricycle drivers standing by and you can easily find a ride to the falls. If the 90 minutes on a crowded bus followed by a tricycle ride sounds like too much trouble, there are also plenty of shuttle van drivers at San Jose who will be willing to take you.

Our trip was on a Saturday so the park was filled with families and kids but they were mostly in the picnic area and kids area of the falls. We didn't find it overly crowded up by the main falls. The water was cool and crystal clear - perfect for a steamy day.

When we were ready to go, our tricycle driver, who had been waiting, took us back up to the main intersection of the National Highway and we caught a bus back to San Jose Terminal. The bus back was somehow even bumpier than on the way (the woman who brought two pillows to sit on should have been a warning!) but after the refreshing day at the falls it wasn't so bad.

If you're looking for an escape from the heat of Puerto Princesa, Estrella Falls is a nice option.

the road to estrella falls is a bit bumpy from the main road of narra, palawan. we had our own vehicle, so I'm not sure how anyone would get there except rent a ride. from the main road is about 30 minutes of a slightly rough road. just follow the signs. when we got there, there's an entrance fee, very minimal at 20 pesos or so each. the falls is not very high but is still quite a view. there's a man that rents out floaters/lifesavers. they have tables by the falls where you can take your meals. they don't have restaurants or food shops so bring your own food. they have a small changing area and wash room. beware of a troop of monkeys that are in the area. they seem unafraid of people and will steal your food or anything they fancy. we witnessed a monkey chasing a little boy when the boy threw something at it, so be careful and just ignore them i'm not sure but they may bite.

Estrella falls are 12-14 km from centre of Narra, you will need a car or tricycle journey (he will wait for you) from Narra . From the national highway you take a rough track towards the mountains for 5km.
There is a very small entrance fee, typical for Philippines. There are a few small shops and a cafe where you buy snacks and drinks , together with some scultured animals at the car park. You walk a short path with anticipation. You start to hear the whoosh of the water, and the vegetation becomes greener. Then you see it - Estrella falls - it is not as high as you think but it is quite nice, some people swim in the deep pool and the stream. It is an OK place to spend some time, the South of Palawan has fewer places for the tourist than the North.
Around Narra, there are also other attractions, hot water springs swimming pool (my favourite) best visited in the evening when it is cooler, even at night.
Also out of town , there is a swimming pool, try to avoid the weekends, when it is full of teenagers !
Narra beach is OK, it is palm fringed but the sand is not very beautiful. Then there are 2 islands Rassa and the luxury Arena island, which is probably too expensive for mostly travelers here. Rassa is famous for exotic birds and Artena, Turtle sanctuary.
I have not visited them, i presume there are bangka boats to take you there, Arena is VERY expensive to visit
