We have stayed in the boardwalk three times, always in January. I like Gordons Bay because the town is easygoing and unpretentious, within easy reach of Cape Town, Somerset West and Stellenbosch, with some of the best golf courses and restaurants you could find anywhere in the world. You can walk into the town along the beach from the Boardwalk.
The apartments are situated just beside the Villa Via Hotel, on the first floor over a restaurant and a restaurant/bar. There is always a great buzz on the boardwalk, with bands playing regularly in the bar (they always finish by midnight!) Both the restaurant and the bar serve great food either inside or out on the deck at the marina. The apartments have balconies overlooking the marina. A nice lunch of grilled fish with potatoes and salad costs about four euro.
The apartments are fairly basic, but have been upgraded recently. One, No 110, is on two floors and has two bedrooms. The others have one bedroom . Paula, who manages the operation, is extremely helpful and friendly.
There is something very pleasant in sitting out on your balcony in the evening, enjoying the sunset and the sound of people enjoying themselves, with the possibility of just wandering downstairs for something to eat or just a nightcap!
