Currently sitting in Alicante airport, having had a fantastic weeks holiday at Casa Carrascal. The weather was great for walking plenty of sun but not too hot and we did a good mixture of walks ranging in difficulty and length. We were a bit apprehensive before going as we had only done a1/2 boot holiday before but this was fine and the important thing about Sue and David, the hosts, is that safety is their priority and they very quickly gauge the experience and capabilities of the group and alter their walks to fit.
The food at the hotel was great, we are vegetarians who eat fish and they were happy to alter their menus, if necessary to fit with what we eat.
Some of the walks were done with their dogs, and while we are not dog lovers ourselves it was no problem and in fact it added to the enjoyment.
Sue and David will go out of their way to help in whatever way they can and we would certainly want to pass our thanks on to them.
We will be back!

Room Tip: Try and book a room which opens onto the terrace

We joined a party of walkers at Christmas and had a great time - good company and good food and Sue and David had excellent walks for us. And how nice to have good weather at that time of year. They worked extremely hard for us and even produced a DVD as a reminder of the holiday for everyone - I dont know how they managed to find the time for such extras. A lovely Christmas!

We are just back from sunny Spain having thouroughly enjoyed a weeks walking holiday at Casa Carrascal in remote Parcent, towards the top of the Jalon Valley, behind the Costa Blanca, with hosts David and Sue. The other reviews have said it all. We were a group of 2 couples who enjoy good food, good accommodation and good walking and we were not disappointed. We were on the Casa Carrascal 'standard itinerary' which provided a structured walking week including all the add-ons which make the experience special. They are the most perfect hosts who make you feel like a house guest whilst looking after you from breakfast to dinner whether as an inexperienced walker or fanatical fell walker. Reticent to recommend it too highly in case their modest operation is overwhelmed (and we want to book again) but good service should be rewarded. We loved it.

Room Tip: Large 2 bed suite on top floor with private terrace and mountain views. Smaller suite with sitting room on 1st floor but small wndow to front overlooking street. Bernia room on 1st floor has wet room shower and double doors and juliet balcony to street but can be noisy with passing traffic. Local church bells sound on the quarter hour but not after midnight or before 7.00am.

We visited with our grown up children. Previously, my husband and I had enjoyed the walking weeks.
So what was the late summer break? Well, it was FUN! The group was aged between 64 and 21 and we ALL had a fantastic time. We walked along the coast, up Calpe rock, up a mountain doing as much as the heat would let us. The other actives included boat trip, day in Valencia, picnics, special meal in fish restaurant on the beach, a Spanish fusion meal, and the most amazing gorge walking/ swimming. This all happened with seamless organisation by sue and dave the amazing hosts. The accomodation was great and the food at the hotel most enjoyable.
We are all wanting to go back ..... Shall we try the new year break or the hard walking week ??

We had a perfect week at Casa Carrascal. Great food, good weather, nice accommodation, wonderful walks and excellent hospitality. Most of all, David and Sue were just fantastic hosts. Not only did they provide us with breakfast, packed lunch and dinner, but they also led the walks every day (except the Wednesday when David took us to the train station for an enjoyable day trip to Valencia). At the end of our stay, they also put together a DVD of photos taken on our walks.
Before we arrived we were a little apprehensive that the walks might be pitched too high for us, but we needn't have worried. The walks were well paced and at no time did we feel out of our depth (or height in the case of Bernia Mountain). The other nice aspect of the holiday was the company of the other guests with whom we shared the walks and the dinner table. There were eight of us in all, and we all got on very well together. All in all a superb week and we have already recommended this holiday to others.
