“Perfect”
Reviewed February 19, 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We had a wonderful break in an idyllic setting. We agree with all of the previous reviews that this is a clean, warm and comfortable home in a gorgeous place. John and Melanie were friendly and welcoming. The best bit for us was the bird song - deafening in the morning! The setting was perfect as we had come to Exmoor to walk and we managed four very different walks and had to drive for no more than 30 mins to the start of the furthest away walk. Highly recommended.

“Enchanting and Relaxing”
Reviewed August 25, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Fabulous 'Farmhouse' accommodation.

The main room with the inglenook fire place was so relaxing and cosy, it is easy to fall to asleep.

The rest of the house was spacious and had much charm, to include the permanently hot Rayburn in the kitchen.

There was a very handy and well equipped utility room which meant we were able to wash and dry clothes for using again or simply not having a lot of washing to do when one arrives home.

The night times were silent and pitch black, save the stars which were the most clear I have ever seen - great for star gazing, which we all did several nights.

John and Melanie, the owners, were very helpful and on site most days and very friendly.

We would definitely recommend the 'Farmhouse' for groups of 6, or even 11, because the owners are willing to open up the entire length of the farmhouse for large groups, if required.

Note: our party consisted of elderly parents and our teenage children, and the property was appropriate for all.

“Bikers Paradise!”
Reviewed June 26, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

If like me, you want to break away from it all, to a place surrounded by twisty roads & beautiful scenery, where you can just play on your motorcycle, day in, day out, then the farmhouse cottage in Challacombe is idyllic. Four of us stayed for a long weekend & couldn't fault it. A roomy place, spotlessly clean, very well equipped, with a nice little garden for a bbq & ten more acres to explore. Melanie, the owner, has a fabulous joie de vivre & a wealth of knowledge about the area, places to visit, things to do & see as well as walks from the doorstep. I didn't do any walking as I was here to ride my bike, but I guarantee that I'll be back, with my family & dogs to enjoy this place from a slightly different perspective. The glowing reviews are correct that this makes an excellent place for a relaxing family holiday too. A few minutes stroll up the road is a friendly little post office that seems to stock everything & an equally friendly pub next door where we made the most of the good food & ale. A nice surprise was the dartboard & pool table.
While meandering our way south, an issue with the fuelling on one of our bikes meant that we ended up arriving at about 7:30 on the Friday night. I phoned Melanie to let her know that we'd be late & this was not a problem. After our protracted journey, we just parked up the bikes, dumped our gear & went straight to the pub. We'd sort the dodgy bike in the morning. A few beers, a meal, a few more beers & cracking nights sleep followed. I was well up for an exploratory ride out next morning, but while investigating under the tank of the bike, a small leak from a fuel line turned into a big split & a gallon of fuel was dumped all over the car park. Rather than the expected rollocking for the mess & smell of fumes, Melanie & her staff rescued the situation by getting us the numbers of local garages & allowing us free use of the landline to contact them. Unfortunately though, the places that were open were unable to assist us. Not giving up, Melanie & Co began ringing around their friends to source someone who could help & found us Mark, a classic car enthusiast, just a few miles away, who was able to supply us with new hoses & clips to fit the bike. Amazing!! These wonderful people went way above & beyond & truly saved our trip. A big, big thank you to everyone. With the bike now sorted, we were free to enjoy the rest of the weekend exploring Exmoor. The weather we had over the weekend was exceptional & the roads down here are better. Point your bike anywhere, just pick a road. Endless ribbons of tarmac snake in every direction. Just superb! Barnstaple, Woolacombe, Combe Martin, Lynmouth, Porlock, Dunster, Exford, pick a place & go. Try out the smaller roads like Hookway Hill off the A39 Porlock to Lynmouth, through Oare, Malmsmead & on through Brendon popping out again on the A39 at Hillsford. You may take a wrong turn here & there, but that will only lead you to discover new places. If you get lost, like us, you will find that it doesn't matter & you will just ride on, I doubt that you can ever get bored of the multitude of brilliant biking roads around here. A fantastic place, fantastic people, fantastic roads, fantastic holiday. 10/10

What a fantastic review - thank you!
We are really glad that you managed to get the bike running and that you found Exmoor to be a 'bikers paradise'. We are always very happy to help where we can.

The local pub and the Post office are a great bonus, being just a short stroll away from Town Tenement.

We very much look forward to welcoming you all back - both with families & pets AND with fellow bikers.

“A truly lovely place”
Reviewed June 4, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

A most enjoyable break, the farmhouse was beautiful, spacious and all bedding and bed linen clean and fresh. The children really enjoyed exploring up the hill too the play area and then settling in the evening reading a selection of the books or playing games which were in the farmhouse. The area was great and central to explore Lynton, Lynmouth, Porlock or the coast. We would definitely go again!

Thank you for your great review. We are glad that you had a comfortable stay (and your dogs too - in front of the range in the kitchen is a great place for a doggy snooze).
The walks on Exmoor are spectacular and having an excellent pub just a short stroll away is a bonus.
