It is the attraction of shimoda and the park on the top of the mount is beautiful. Much more things to do than in Perry road ...

We enjoyed good seeing from Mt Nesugatayama. It's really scenic and reminds me of Admiral Perry coming to Shimoda.

Going to Mount Nesugatayama is beyond my expectations. Riding the ropeway up high and looking down the town of Shimoda is so beautiful, strolling the well-maintained gardens and viewing the ocean/Izu 7 islands by the side just to good to believe, calm feel and so soothing. The place is not big, but my husband and I stayed more than 2 hours just to loose ourselves.

For the price of 1080 yen per person I felt it was a bit expensive for what we got. There is a nice view of the Shimoda bay and general area from the top, a very tacky gift shop and what appeared to be a very poor restaurant.

We were there on a cold and windy day which may have influenced my opinion. There is a garden area at the top, nothing particularly outstanding but if you are up there take the time to walk about to take in the various aspects of the surrounding area.

You can reach this mountain via the ropeway that departs right in front of Shimoda station. On the top there is a souvenir shop and restaurant, a nice garden that you can stroll through while having some spots for watching the amazing view of the sea around you.
