We were on a trip in the Douro valley travelling from Porto for a day.
The guide took us to this old mansion which is beautiful.
There is a small charge and you can visit the gardens alone or the house and gardens. We were near the end of the day so only visited the gardens. But I heard people saying the house was worth a visit.
The house is beautiful from the outside - very ornate and large.
There is a small gift shop which has excellent value wines and jams etc. Also a small café with good ice cream when it is hot.
The gardens are lovely and go down to the river. There are box hedges with ornate patterns and other plants in the middle - quite spectacular as the blossom was out in May.
Definitely worth a visit.
And I did ask the question - is this the home of Mateus Rose wine - no.
