We stayed in Nova Levante for 3 nights in September, and had to find a hotel. We ended up at Hotel Engel and were very happy at first, but there are definitely some minors. The sauna is very nice, and so is the garden with nice beds. But the food is good, not fantastic and you wonder why the Michelin star chef does not influence the next-door kitchen more. The service team doesn't function as a team, and on a busy friday night with all the rooms booked the restaurant was a disaster, and the staff didn't seem to help the waitresses and waiters. I haven't seen Mr Kohler at all during my stay.
And it is very German! The slogan of the hotel is: "To be at home", but it is holiday and we are in Italy!
And then for the rooms in the old part of the hotel, they are really outdated and should be rebuild or discounted. The bed was 1.90 meter, there was no shower, only a bathtub, no airco, etc. Our price was 99 Euro per person per night, and for European standards that is Normal to High, but I then had to pay for lunch and pastries that I not really wanted. I lile to hike all day in those beautiful Dolomites. And the newer rooms aren't that much more expensive.
But after all a pleasant stay, but I don't know if I come back

Room Tip: Ask for the new rooms.

First of all let's talk about about the rooms. The main building has three floors of old and tiny rooms. My room had ugly furniture, no minibar, no internet, no space to move, a dismal bathroom without a shower and with an uncomfy bathtub. I do agree with all the reviews complaining about the room quality. I do not agree at all with the comments by the hotel owner: the room was up to a TWO stars hotel and the price, discounted indeed, was however a FOUR stars price.
I was disappointed about the service too: I was welcomed by a cold receptionist (and you would expect a warm welcome in a 4S stars hotel), I asked for a supplementary cushion and I had to call two more times to have it, I asked for a glass of water with ginger juice in my room (I read a leaflet in my room inviting me to ask for it!!) and I never had it, there was no parking garage, so every morning I had to remove the snow from my car.
Last but not least, I had a dirty knife and and a dirty glass for a dinner. No way you have dirty cutlery in a luxury place!!
This hotel is definitely a THREE stars hotel, pretending to be what it is not. Beware!

Very cosy and friendly atmosphere. rooms spotless and staff extremely friendly. Would highly recommend this hotel further. Was a shame we were only staying for 2 nights - will definately be going back. Just like going from home to home. Also the food and refreshments were outstanding. All in all - just what the doctor ordered - a fantastic stay !!! Suitable for families with kids also although we were travelling alone - also nice for couples of all ages.
