“Location makes it all ok”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2012

September 2011 week away, cheap deal in a studio. Very dated, dark, musty and tired room, near to the tennis courts. There was a crack in the stone work top/draining board, so the drawer and cupboard underneath had about an inch of water in it, that so that's why it stunk so much. For the price, wasn't expecting too much, but could have been better. Reported the fact to the reception, so hopefully they will have fixed it for this season. Disappointed on day one, but got used to it. Bought a couple of airfreshners and made sure we didn't let any thing drain on the stone surface and it dried out in a couple of days. Clean as could be, under the circumstances. However, the location makes up for it all. Staff friendly. Convenient supermarket on site. Ate in the restaurant first night and was ok. Rest of time, spent all day on the fantastic beach and in the evenings walked into the Santa Luzia. Didn't use the pool or hotel bars, but looked ok.There was a local free music festival on for three nights while we were there which was really good. Would recommend the location and are going back this September, but staying in a private apartment. A bit of required, although not sure what other studios were, like, we may of just got a duff one.

We arrived at Pedras D'el Rei at 3am but the people on reception were still more than happy to help which was a good sign.

The rooms were generally kept clean with a bedroom and then two converted sofa beds in the lounge area and kitchen. The cleaner visited daily.

There are a few restaurants / cafes on site. I ate a burger from one of the cafes with it literally dripping with grease and felt extremely ill that night. The other whilst the food was good quality, is over priced.

In terms of location Pedras D'el Rei is situated almost in the middle of no where. It is best to have a car if you are going to rent at this location. All in all a good hotel experience with a few ups and downs. Best suited to families.

Stayed here with my wife and 2-year old son in May 2012. Check-in was easy, room was very clean and looked like it had just been refurbished. We took the breakfast because we did not feel like cooking anything, not even breakfast, but I would recommend not taking the breakfast after all. Breakfast staff was extremely nice but four days of exactly the same thing (boiled egg, cheese, chorizo, ham, fruit salad and coffee or thea) ain't nice. Everything is cheap in the Algarve, so 7€ per breakfast is considered a lot. We stayed in appartment 179F and I really have no complaints. Rooms could be more spacious, but I guess you get what you payed for: 65€ per night in this case. Maintenance is fantastic: the whole place is green andyou see people maintaining the buildings, the flowers, the trees and the grass all the time.

There's a coulpe of things that give away the place's age. Steel keys for instance. Or the fact that you pay at check-out, forcing you to cue at reception the day you leave. But really: I have no complaints. Beach is fabulous, nearby restaurants terrific, staff very nice.

Room Tip: If you have kids, ask for a terras that can be closed off.

Pedras d’el Rei Review

Title: Do go here if you’re looking for relaxation, beautiful tranquil surroundings and excellent service!

Don’t go here if you’re looking for nightlife, shops, entertainment and crowds! Do go here if you’re looking for relaxation, beautiful tranquil surroundings and excellent service! We booked 10 days in early February and would go back tomorrow if we could get the time off work.

Our apartment was small but very comfortable, with a panoramic view of the sea and nature reserve. The beach was about 1km away and was deserted out of season, just a short walk or [free] train ride away.

The nearest village, Santa Luzia, was a pleasant 20 minute stroll away, and had a few nice bars and fish restaurants, but not much else. Heaven!

The nearby town of Tavira (about 5km away) was a fascinating old town, on the river. We spent many a happy hour wandering around the ancient cobbled streets admiring the classic combination of beauty and squalour.

We hired a car for three days – it’s well worth exploring in land to get even more off the beaten track and witness more beautiful scenery. We got a good deal on car hire from reception – service was always excellent there and the free Wi-fi was an added bonus.

Overall, a fantastic break and we would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from it all.

Room Tip: We asked for a balcony and were rewarded with a splendid sea view.

We live 3 days at the begiing of october 2011. That was a low season and room costs 22 euros per night. That's excellent value for money. Comfortoble, very spacy room with aircon and private big balcony was very good.
There are everything to cook inthe room but we prefed fish restraunts in Tavira (10 minutes by car) or Santa Luzia.

Beach is 10 minutes walk from the hotel and can be reached by train. Pool is not big but clean.

We set off for a few days of doing as little as possible, rest somewhere quiet and comfortable and enjoy the beach.
The accommodation, a 1 bedroom villa, was clean, comfortable and furnished to a very high standard.
The restaurant and cafe facilities in the resort and on the beach served good quality food and drink.
The resort, garden, swimming pool etc. are very well maintained. I don't have children but this resort looks very child friendly.
The 24 hour reception is very convenient as we arrived just before midnight, there was always at least one member of staff who could speak perfect english, very helpful throughout our stay.
Lots of space to walk and explore in the marshlands and the beach stretches to the horizon, both sides! The little steam train that take visitors to and from the beach is a great perk after a lazy day on the beach.
Very affordable, all amenities reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the newly upgraded villas/rooms as not all of them have undergone an upgrade.

Booked a verrrrrry cheap break here in September, so wasn't expecting much.

However, the accomodation surpassed our expectations. The word "bungalow" doesn't appear on any of the listings, but that is exactly what these are. Yes, they could probably do with a bit of updating, but they are clean, spacious, and actaully quite charming (in a rustic kind of way). Air con, clean, comfy beds, TV, and private patio area.

The complex is great with tidy, well tended gardens everywhere.

The pool is nice, but a tad small.

The on-site restaraunt is great, and not too expensive.

The train to the beach is quick & easy. You'e on the beach after a pleasant 10 minute ride.
When you get to the beach, it is great. Lovely long stretch of soft sand with a few cafes and restaraunts.

Santa Luzia is a 20 min walk akong the front. Not much there, but the restaraunts that we visited were decent quality and good value.

The major downside for us was the mosquito's... As this this on a nature reserve, not much can be done about them. Just make sure that you pack some repellant!
