“Ideal town location”
Reviewed November 8, 2017 for a stay in October 2017

This house is ideally situated just yards from the centre of one of the most attractive and vibrant small towns in the area. There are several cafes, restaurants, shops, beauty parlours and a small fountain close to an impressive town hall. Although there were only two of us, four people would be quite comfortable in this character house. The lounge is quite large, but not as atmospheric as the dining room, which is next to the well equipped kitchen. The main bedroom (on the front as are the lounge and dining room) is quaint and restful. Despite being so central the house is very quiet and the garden is not overlooked. Staying there in the last week of October, we did need the heating on and the storage heaters worked very well and the house was cosy. Parking, although not directly outside, is no problem as the large, free public car park is just yards around the corner. There is plenty to see in the area, although we found exploring the historical old courtyards and the museum in the town quite interesting without going much further.

“Comfortable and convenient accommodation in an interesting old town”
Reviewed June 18, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Two minutes gentle stroll from the centre of town (with a good range of restaurants and shops including several boulangeries), situated opposite the music school on a quiet street, this town house offers excellent accommodation on two floors. There is a large sitting room, comfortably furnished with squashy chairs and sofa and with English Freeserve tv and wood-burning stove. The good-sized kitchen is fully equipped with proper full-size cooker and fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine plus all the necessary crockery, cutlery and utensils. Adjoining this is a pleasant dining room with another stove and all the furniture etc you would expect. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a comfortable double bed the other with two singles. There is a good bathroom with bath and shower over. Towels and linen are provided and we found a constant supply of (very) hot water. Each room has at least one electric convection heater (very effective) and there are storage heaters also in some rooms. It was rather cool for much of the time of our stay and we did need those heaters in the evenings. The garden is a pleasant place to relax and comes equipped with loungers and plenty of furniture for alfresco eating.. Some people might be concerned about the lack of parking immediately adjacent to the house but we had no hint of a problem parking in the large public car park just around the corner. Everything worked fine for us and we'll be more than happy to return here to continue our exploration of this interesting old town and its surroundings...

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay in our little house. A very interesting old town being connected to the Knights of St John in Malta. This connection goes back to the crusades when they started to make the copper pots in the town. Obviously this has progressed as apart from the copper pots and pans there is also one of the remaining bell foundries in France. A recent commission where the new bells for Norte Dame du Paris. A lovel y area to explore being about half way between Mont St Michel and Bayeux. That is apart from the landing beaches. Thank you coming and we hope to welcome you to Villedieu again

“Comfortable, well-situated house”
Reviewed October 6, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

A very pleasant, well-maintained house in a very agreeable small market town, celebrated for its foundries (‘-les-Poêles’ are the ‘frying pans’ but the town’s fame nowadays is more about its bell foundry). The street is quiet – a little music from the Music School across the road, but it doesn’t become a nuisance – and the house is very comfortable, - indeed it has the most comfortable armchairs we’ve ever come across in France. Pleasant garden – steepish steps up to it, but there is a handrail. All necessary shops – bakery, butcher, café, etc are a 2- or 3-minute walk away, and there’s even an English potter with some interesting hand-made pottery in his shop. There is easy, and free, parking on the Champ de Mars 150 yards away, and Villedieu is in very easy reach of a host of seaside villages, of the Mont St Michel, Avranches, Granville and its Casino, Coutances with its magnificent cathedral, and the rebuilt St Lo, heavily bombed on D-Day. Bayeux and the D-Day beaches are only a little further away.

“Fabulous holiday home”
Reviewed August 19, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Absolutely lovely holiday home in a perfect location. The house was really quiet and yet only a two minute stroll into town with all the shops, cafes, museums and of course, the Tuesday market. Very well equipped and comfortable. Brilliant to have UK TV so we could keep up to date with the Olympics although it did make for some very late nights. We were slightly worried about parking before coming but this was completely worry free as the free large car park is just round the corner, a minute from the house so absolutely no trouble at all. Slight problem on the first evening when we arrived but very quickly sorted by Janet. One high light of the week was our pottery workshop with Francois at the pottery just behind the church - can't wait for our pots to arrive in the post! All in all an excellent holiday and would very much recommend to friends and family. Many thanks.

So pleased you both really enjoyed your stay in Villedieu despite the initial hiccup. Will try to get to the bottom of it next weekend when we go for a few days gardening. Hope you managed to find the beach at Carolles- lovely views up and down the coast and excellent coffee at the small café. You certainly had good weather. Look forward to hearing about the pots.

This holiday was brilliant from start to finish, the house was easy to find using the instructions from janet, who even called the house during our stay to check everything was ok. the house was clean tidy and welcoming the garden was beautiful and private. we enjoyed wandering round the town and practising our french in the local shops where they were keen to let us practise!. we visited lots of castles and local towns, this was a great base to travel all over.
thankyou for letting us stay in your home!

thank you so much for your very kind review. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay there. It really is a lovely old town and we have always had a happy time there. I loved your cryptic comments on the washing machine instructions. They really made me giggle. It is so nice when guests enjoy their time in our little house.

“A great house to stay in”
Reviewed September 20, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

My wife and I stayed in this house with our son and his wife for a week. The house is large and well furnished, and complete with everyting you would need for an extended stay.

Villedieu itself is a great small town/large village, with everything handy - boulanger, butcher, traiteur. You're also at the centre of the Normandy region, wih heaps to see and do.

Highly recommended.

“Wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed August 10, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

The owner was a pleasure to deal with. In advance of our visit Janet sent us very comprehensive information on the property, the location and things to do and see in the area and made everything easy for us.

The house is spacious, very comfortable and very well equipped. Being located in a quiet street a few steps from the town centre it perfectly combines the convenience of being close to shops and restaurants while having all the tranquillity and calm of a rural location.

It has a lovely private garden that is simply the most fantastic place to sit and relax at any time of the day.

Villedieu is a pretty market town with a good range of shops, bars and restaurants. It also has a very good weekly market. We found the people to be very friendly, warm and welcoming.

The town also has a swimming pool which was a popular feature with our teenagers as were the wifi and tv/dvd facilities in the house.

The property is a short drive from Cherbourg and it’s central location means there are plenty of things to do and places to visit are a short distance away.

The house and it’s location offer a wide range of options for your holiday. Stay local and relax or tour the area and see lots of very interesting places. Dine out in a variety of local restaurants, cook at home in the well equipped kitchen or have delicious takeaway pizza from the nearby pizza restaurant. Or do a combination of all of these and more.

We had a wonderful holiday at 13 Rue Des Ecoles and hope to return to in the future if the opportunity arises.
