Making a Sunday-night stopover in Villedieu, we stumbled into A Table Ronde because it seemed 'right'. As someone else here wisely points out, this isn't grande gastronomie, but it is honest food, well prepared and served promptly and with a smile. We (2 adults plus boys aged 10 and 12) all had the 'planche du boucher' - essentially steak, salad, chips and a tangy, herby home-made bearnaise, and it was delightful, the beef tender and cooked just as we'd requested. There was dessert of basic but tasty apple tart or a variety of ice creams.
Total of 102 EUR included house wine, soft drinks, coffee and calvados. I've eaten in little places like this all over France, and the pleasure lies in spotting what the cook does best. This place knows its meat, and the friendly service made it a memorable end to our holiday.
