Hawkstone Park Hotel
Reviewed July 2, 2009

if you like large outside parties holding functions/disco's every night, that we were there, waiting a long time to get served at the packed bar, then having to try finding a seat, very surly staff to say the least, especially in the golf club house, we were having bets on who could get a smile from some of the staff. This is the place for you. We went to Hawkstone Park to play golf, we found the 'Hawkstone' course a very good test of golf and very scenic, the 'Championship' course very boring, on both courses, the greens, in my opinion, had not been cut for at least 3/4 days, making them extremely slow, almost a joke to putt on, check your bill on checking out, i was being overcharged over £400, as other guests items had been posted to my room, it then took nearly 10 minutes to sort out, do i wish to go back? doubtful certainly not over a weekend. not a very welcoming place.

If you play golf you will be in heaven

Stunning location and courses

There is no spa or health club so if you are a couple and one doesn;t play golf unless you enjoy walking and scenery you may be bored

But if you enjoy golf then you will not be disappointed here

I believe it was voted in the top 20 world golfing destinations

The hotel itself is not luxurious but it is very comfortable however the golf facilities are second to none

I would describe as 3 star for the hotel but 6 star for the golf

I noticed pictures of Sandy Lyle everywhere - when I asked why it turned out this is where he grew up and learnt to play the game

His old house is in the middle of the now car park

Not the easiest place to get to, but signed up from the main road.
Very peaceful setting next to Hawkstone Park.
Not golfers ourselves, but should imagine it's perfect for those that do play. The green was outside our bedroom window!
Easy, ample parking, a short distance from our room.
Room was on the small side, but comfortably furnished. Bathroom was in need of updating.
Popular place for wedding receptions, so bear this in mind if your room backs onto the terrace and you need to get to sleep early...! Didn't bother us though.
Food was average. Breakfast okay - didn't seem a lot of choice and why have so few hotels not heard of VEGGIE sausages!
Easy to travel to the rest of Shropshire from with good road links. Liked Shrewsbury.

Lots of smiles from the staff and spotlessly clean rooms with nice fluffy towels. The wife and i had two lovely days playing golf and walking in the beautiful surrounding area. The food and service brilliant will return.

Nice friendly attentive staff from the moment we walked in. My pal and i played both golf courses the 2 days whilst the partners went off shopping both days! The food and service both dinner and breakfast was superb. All in a lovely setting.

Just returned from a golf trip to Hawkstone Park (32 of us). The area is beautiful and the golf courses are fantastic. We played both 18 hole courses over the 3 days but didnt try the 9 hole course but I hear it is excellent too. The hotel room was tiny but clean(annex) the food was very good in the dining room but the sandwiches in the club house were tasteless. Service was good although couldnt find the wine waiter until we had finished dinner!!!!! We will definately return to play the courses next year but might not book the hotel as I hear there is a good guest house close by
