Having visited the hotel for a golf weekend regularly over a number of years I was very interested to see how it had changed if at all.
My last visit was some ten or more years ago. I can say it has and hasn't changed. The golf is great. The Championship Course, the old Windmill course I think, has matured wonderfully and is now a real test. The showpiece Hawkestone remains a true beauty and if anything is in better condition than my last visit.

I had real fears for the hotel. My memories of a run down establishment ruled.
However, those fears were dumbfounded. My guests and I were pleased with the rooms. Dinner was excellent although the wine was terribly overpriced. Captive audience I assume.. Breakfast was just what was needed for golf.
And the staff were fantastic. Coping with a hotel full of mostly male golfers cannot be easy. So well done.

We are delighted to hear about your "pleasant surprise" and look forward to welcoming you back to Hawkstone Park Hotel and golf courses again soon (perhaps don't leave it so long next time!!)

Stayed over on a Saturday night with a group of golfers. Championship course was in excellent condition, as good as I have ever seen it. Bar in clubhouse closed a little early for our group. The hotel room was rather tired decor wise and the light in the bathroom was faulty. The shower leaked profusely around the head. Bed was clean and comfy. Had the choice of set menu, food was pretty good, steamed pud was super. Drinks were expensive.
Breakfast was good and there was plenty available.
Played the Hawkstone on the Sunday, again in super condition especially the greens, if you were looking for a minor criticism then it would be the bunkers were variable in quality.
Stopped for an organised function on the Sunday night. The food was poor, a mean serving of pate, followed by a very dry turkey and fatty pork carvery, with golf ball like stuffing balls, veg was OK though, no pud just boring cheese and biscuits. The evening was rounded off by a few more expensive drinks. Woken up at 4 am by tipsy noisy golfers stumbling and grumbling loudly along the corridor... Perhaps not the hotel's fault but could close the bar a little earlier to avoid excesses?
Breakfast was good the next day as was the golf.
Would come back tomorrow for the golf but would need to be persuaded to go back to the hotel.

Stayed: September 2013

This will be my second trip here, I have reviewed previously. Firstly the golf courses and very well maintained, slick greens, and all very pretty and challenging, especially in the high winds we had.
One of my freinds had a buggy for 3 days - cost him £105. ie £30/round and £45/day - gulp!
I had a single room, It was quite spacious and everything worked. I think there's been a refurb since my last visit, could be wrong but it didn't seem as drab.
The three course evening meal included in the package was very good, plenty of it if you have large appetite, we had a cavery with choice of meats and plenty of choice for breakfast.
The drinks were a little pricey, but you have a 4pt jug of lager for £12 which is OK. Another friend paid £6 for a shot of malt.
Staff throughout the complex were freindly and helpful.
I look forward to my next visit - perhaps I'll pack a swing next time!

Two great golf courses, Championship and Hawkstone, both challenging and tight but great to play, beautiful locations and scenic. As it happens I played well but that was just a bonus.
The hotel does not look great from the outside but it is fine inside and the room we had was spacious and well appointed. The staff were courteous, friendly and helpful.
The food was very good for an inclusive deal and the breakfast was also quite good although typical sitting in the buffet too long for eggs to keep well.
Overall I could not fault it and would go there again in a flash even though it was 75 miles away from home.
There is no fitness centre, gym or pool.

The staff are cheerful efficient and responsive to your needs. Courteous and service with a smile making check in and out very easy and quick.
Both eighteen hole courses are well designed and maintained and each challenging in their own way. Beautiful scenery bordering on the spectacular in places and appreciated by this non-golfer.
We had stayed here many years ago and not much had changed in that time but I had expected a lot more to have been updated. The motel type room was perfectly adequate, clean with all the usual offices including Sky TV [not flat screen however],but in need of an update decor-wise.. Very responsive and efficient central heating - needed in September. Basic hospitality tray but with mini gingerbread men! A good touch with nearby Market Drayton the link here.
Very comfortable twin beds with beautifully large thick duvets almost a guarantee of a good nights sleep.
Breakfasts were well organised on the buffet system and very tasty. Dinner was a rather hit or miss situation but complaints of tasteless food were well responded to but I feel the standard should be raised although there were some interesting sounding dishes which could be winners. The bar area was very "tired" and showed that it is well used. The lounge had a touch of English Country House living but seems little used. There are good facilities for hosting weddings or golf groups although the all male affairs might affect the more sensitive guests.
Not a venue for a romantic break unless your are golfers.

Room Tip: I think a room with the hotel would be best as rain was a problem when moving from our room to meals.
