Stayed here for two nights. A lovely quaint old hotel offering good sized rooms - we were in room 8 overlooking the rear garden. Friendly and helpful staff, especially Claire. Good qualiy food but the special Living Social menu was a little limited. The inclusive boat trip along the reiver from Shrewsbury was enjoyable and informative.

Lovely staff, brilliant food and a very quaint hotel. Had a lovely stay and would definately go back again. Eight of us stayed for a two night break and it was delightful. The staff couldnt do enough to make our stay enjoyable and the food was excellent both at night and breakfast. Excellent weekend.

We stayed at the old rectory house for one night , and found that the staff went above and beyond my expectations to help us.
The day we stayed was carnival day and the roads around the hotel were closed , however we needed a taxi to attend a wedding , so the lady on reception arranged for a cab to pick us up on the outskirts of the town.
We had a comfortable nights stay and the breakfast was excellent

We've just had a fabulous stay at The Old Rectory. The service was exemplary and all the front of house staff worked very hard - you couldn't fault them. The atmosphere was very relaxing and we felt very well looked after! We had the Stewards room which was very roomy and comfortable and had a fantastic view of the garden and countryside beyond. The food was outstanding. The breakfast particularly was one of the best we'd ever had in a hotel. Excellent quality and well cooked - compliments to the chef! All in all a very enjoyable break and we would love to visit again. Thanks for looking after us!

upon arriving it appeared a lovely old house. We were checked in promptly, the girl on the desk when we arrived was lovely. She also doubled as the barmaid and the waitress!

The room was a little disappointing for the price being billed as an executive double, very dated and small and with half a view over the immaculate garden and the other half overlooking a scruffy yard with building materials everywhere.

We had booked in for the evening meal, there was a distinct lack of people about. I am not sure we saw any other guests. In fact we were totally on our own for the whole meal, the food as others have mentioned was a major disappointment. Not only did it lack any flavour whatsoever it was also expensive. I get the impression it was not a chef cooking the food and the other guests were obviously at the local pub eating!

Would I return? not unless it was on special offer

We stayed here for 2 nights on a Living Social Deal which was great value. Staff were very friendly. A problem with the wardrobe door handle on check-in was fixed straight away. We ate in on the first night. Food was good. Unfortunately the restaurant was not open on the 2nd night (Sunday), although the manager did mention that we could order sandwiches at the bar. The room was tastefully furnished and comfortable, overlooking the front of the hotel. Wem itself doesn't have much going for it - mostly residential/light industrial, with a number of pubs and small shops/take-aways on the main street. The hotel is a good base for visiting Shrewsbury, which we really liked. There's also a very good farm shop (Battlefields) on the road from the hotel to Shrewsbury which we would recommend.
