What a lovely hotel - a first visit to the area and we couldnt have been more happy. We stayed for two nights and ate dinner in the hotel both evenings. The hotel is lovely, the staff welcoming and very helpful. So good, we have booked to return next month - again for two nights, I cant wait!

My husband and I have just returned from a one night stay at The Old Rectory Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very helpful and attentive and the food was delicious. Afternoon tea on arrival was an added bonus. Our room was clean and tastefully decorated.

The only negative for me was that Wem itself was abit rundown but ideal to visit nearby Shrewsbury.

my partner brought me here as a surprise for my birthday. the location is in a nice quiet area, and although opposite a small housing estate, due to its large grounds you feel like youre in the middle of nowhere. the room was very spacious, as was the bathroom and was also very tastefully decorated. the view from the bedroom window was nice (overlooking the garden) but maybe the items piled up against the wall at the back of the overflow car park need to be moved elsewhere? not that it was a problem when we stayed, as it was the start of january, but the window could do with a catch to help keep it open? also the bed was made up of two single mattresses, now i know this is common practice in a lot of hotels but it was very noticeable in our room.
we dined in the hotel each night of our stay and the food was of a good quality (i had steak both nights as it was that good) and the prices were very reasonable. breakfast was also of a good quality and also selection for a hotel this size was great
the only downside for me, and in my opinion it was due to the time of year, was that the staff could be more engaging. the lady in charge of the restaurant (probably a duty manager running the bar and restaurant at a night time) was great, and the young waitress on our second night was also friendly but the waiter running breakfast on our second day said hardly anything and he kept darting into the kitchen to speak to the chef. however as it was right at the start of january, and no doubt after a busy christmas all the staff wanted to do was shut down and as there was only ourselves and one other couple staying at that time i can easily understand this. all in all worth a second visit

Had a lovely stay with a group on voucher. Good value for money. We stayed in the bridal suite. Had a lovely evening meal and a really nice breakfast. The surrounding area is quiet but very relaxing. Would definately go to this hotel again.

Had a party of 20, had Sunday Lunch for an 80th Birthday party.
The staff were attentive and very professional.
Food was delicious, and served on warm plates.
Would highly recommend!
Even though it was January the room was warm and cosy.
Set in beautiful Shropshire countryside.
Although 6 guests couldn't come due to adverse weather conditions all staff were very co-operative.

We used a £49 return voucher from our previous visit. This time we also had dinner in the hotel.
After a warm welcome we were given the same room as before, which was comfortable, and spotlessly clean.
Dinner was fantastic, generous portions, without feeling overfaced, and impeccable, friendly service.
As before, breakfast was to die for, cooked to perfection, and the sausages are simply the best I have ever tasted.
We'll be back again!
