When we arrived we felt like we were putting the owner out we weren't shown to our room , our room was full off spiders and flies, the bar prices were horrendous and be careful what you drink at the dinner table as you will be charged later , the dining room is very dark and the food was not good value for money , your better off going to the Albion for food as it was delicious , other people where complaining whilst we tried to enjoy our meal, I think everything is already prepared and not very fresh , as the latest time for breakfast was 9.30 on the Sunday we thought that was too early and decided not to have it , when I came to settle the bill she refused to take off the bill the breakfast we didn't have and said it had already been prepared ??? I don't know how this is possible since she didn't know what time we would come down for breakfast ? I told her I wasn't very happy and would never return and she just shrugged and said that's ok !!!!please don't waste your money here (£300) as we did as you will be disappointed

My wife & I recently visited Soulton Hall for an overnight stay and dinner.
It is a beautiful building built around 1400. It standings in wonderful Shropshire countryside. It has the potential to be something very special.
Unfortunately on arrival one can see the general "run down" appearance of its unkept grounds. Overgrown lawns and borders full of weeds!
On entering the building, the public areas are shabbily furnished. Bedrooms & bathroom have more than the norm of flying bugs in the air.
Food very mediocre.
We were surprised that this has a recommendation from Johanssens guide.
A depressing experience & very over priced for what is on offer

We stayed at Soulton Hall for 2 nights while we attended a friend's wedding nearby. The building is a stunning manor house which has been lovingly restored by its current owners. Anne and her husband are warm and friendly and can't do enough the make their guests feel at home. The character of the building and the surrounding countryside are awe inspiring.

Our room was called Hill, which we think is probably one of the largest rooms, facing towards the front entrance. The breakfast is simple but excellent, including delicious fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt and full cooked breakfast if you desire (with local sausages).

Our friends stayed in Shooters Lodge, a cottage in the grounds, which is dated but comfortable - perfect for families with children. The rooms in the manor house itself are perhaps more suited to couples. Our friends had dinner (we arrived too late) and they were hugely impressed with the food. As we arrived late we were welcomed into the manor's charming little bar and enjoyed a delicious cheese board with wine from their extensive wine list.

All in all a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed at Soulton Hall for a weekend break in June 2012. It is a beautiful old country manor house in quiet Shropshire countryside and made for a really romantic getaway.

We were warmly welcomed by the owner on our arrival and after a short check-in process were shown straight to our room which was very impressive! Lots of old wooden beams, statement paintings, old tudor stone bay windows - it felt straight out of a classic novel like Jane Eyre or Pride & Prejudice.

We spent most of our time walking in the Shropshire countryside, enjoying the peace and quiet, watching out for an array of birds (buzzard, wren, nuthatch, wheatear, stonechat, heard a cuckoo!). We didn't spot the infamous foxes sadly! There are so many nice walks around Soulton, through the woods and across the farmland, and the owners very kindly gave us lots of suggestions on where we could go. We were also impressed by the remains and story behind the Norman Castle, just across the road from the Hall. We are a little confused by some of the negative reviews of the owners and staff as we found them nothing but welcoming and helpful.

We had both breakfast and dinner at the Hall. We would definitely recommend eating in as the food was delicious. We both had the chicken at dinner and it was so succulent, the best we've had in ages. Compliments to the chef! At breakfast there was a great variety of cereals, fruit and yoghurt, but of course we had the cooked breakfast (only thing to have on holiday really!). It was spot on, proper sausages, runny eggs, toast, crisp bacon, delicious!

We had a really relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable break at Soulton and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a great place for a romantic short break.

This place makes an excellent first impression of "WOW" as it is a beautiful and large building with the fantastic Shropshire countryside behind it.
The decor is lovely - all very historic to fit in with the hall itself, but it is modern where it needs to be (bathrooms etc). My room was great - very homely with lovely furnishings and an enormous, comfortable bed.
Breakfast was excellent too - I ate enough to power me through a long walk around the beautiful grounds. The owners (who also run a farm there) were great people who were kind enough to explain some of their farming methods to me.

If I'm ever in the area, I will stay again!

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights last weekend with my partner and stayed in the HILL room. When we arrived we were met by the owner who was lovely and friendly and couldn't be more helpful and even made us a cup of tea with homemade biscuits. We were then shown to our room which was a very large room with a big comfy bed and it was very clean. We decided to eat in the restaurant the 1st night and had a 4 course meal which was delicious so decided we would definately eat there again the 2nd night. The next day we went out to look at the surrounding areas and the staff were very helpful giving us information about the best places to visit. All in all i cannot fault this hotel, and will recommend it to anyone including all my friends and family. We will definately be coming back here again soon. As to the negative reviews on this site, i am completely confused, as we did not experience any of this from the staff or from the hotel itself, it was lovely, so i would definately try it for yourself and not read to much into it.

Room Tip: we stayed in the hill room which was a front room in the main hotel. lovely large room

We have been visiting Soulton Hall and staying at Keepers Cottage, 3 times a year, for about three years now. For us there is nothing to match the tranquil setting and the warmth of our welcome. We love to visit at Bluebell time, in early May, and the cottage in the autumn is equally beautiful.
The wildlife is a constant joy, the squirrels provide endless entertainment, and the fox that visits regularly is an extremely handsome creature! We hope we might see the Badgers next time. Once fully stocked the bird table attracts a wide variety of birds including tree creepers nut hatches and a pair of woodpeckers along with the expected range of woodland birds etc.
We have always found the staff absolutely charming, nothing is ever too much trouble, we particularly appreciate a lift home after enjoying an evening meal, with a bottle of wine!
The cottage is cosy and we enjoy being able to light a real fire on chilly evenings, with wood from the estate.
We have happily recommended this venue to both friends and family, and are really looking forward to spending Christmas there this year.
Thank you Soulton Hall, place and people!
