Austing Haus B&B

We spent almost two weeks during the 2013 holidays. When we arrived before Christmas it was almost 0 degrees. The rooms were warm and comfortable. Breakfast was well prepared with good variety. We thought the Owners and the Staff were sincere and helpful and we made friends.

Of course, the Taos Ski Valley is a great place to be in the winter and we were able to take advantage of the winter sports. The B&B is well located about a mile from the slopes.

The hotel as a whole is in need of refurbishment. Carpet is threadbare, furniture in our room was dirty from use with holes worn through, and there was a definite need for new pillows. The water temperature in the bathroom was extremely temperamental, ranging from arctic to scalding (literally scream and jump out of the shower hot). We paid about $225/night for a room that we would liken to a Super 8's in quality.

All this being said, the hotel has great potential. The building has good bones, and could be turned into something really cute and comfortable. It's conveniently located to the ski slopes and the breakfasts served were satisfying.

It is not a 5 star hotel but the service is genuinely loving. My friend and I arrived late with our dog and Caleb was available to not only check us in but helped us bring in all of our luggage and shared some local places to check out. Bobby and his wife prepared a protein filled breakfast to start anyones day for snowboarding/skiing. The WiFI is iffy and the TV stations are limited but the reason why we were there was to ride the mountain, explore downtown and spend a day at the hot springs in Ojo Caliente.
The morning that we left there was a snow storm and we found Bobby out in the parking lot cleaning off all the snow on the parked cars.
It is completely pet friendly with trails behind the B & B. I would %100 recommend this place if you are staying in Taos Ski Valley to be a part of a truly historic piece of Taos.

I went there for a wedding. The Austing Haus B&B is only open during ski season, but the owners opened up their place for the guests of the wedding. They served us the most wonderful food for breakfast and dinner. The room had all the esentials, TV, fireplace, bathroom and the bed was beautiful (four poster). I would like to go back and stay during the ski season. I think it would be great!

We stayed here for a few nights during a trip to visit my husband's family at Christmas. The location was great, it was a short drive in the mountains from the B&B to the Ski Valley. There was lots of fresh snow and the ski valley was easy to rent from as well. Two of us got standard sport skis and my husband got telemark skis. It was nice that you could leave skis there to store overnight so you didn't have to cart them back and forth. We were able to go back to the ski area for dinner as well as Taos pretty easily. For those not used to driving in snow, some of the tourists took a shuttle to Ski Valley. We are used to skiing in VT so this place reminded us of typical B&B's there. Our room was cute, little loft bed up above us was great for our 10 year old and there was enough room for all his stuff up there. We did have a few problems with our room as the tenants the night before we arrived had been very rowdy and trashed a few things, the bed among them. The hotel was fully booked so we couldn't change rooms but the owners were good about fixing the bed, damaged window & replacing damaged fridge quickly. Our room was right next to the little hot tub room, which was also perfect. The hot tub was indoors and had many different settings and was perfect to relax in after skiing. Towels were provided for hot tub use. The owners made excellent breakfast (there were fruits, yogurts, cereals, wafflemaker & hot homemade breakfast items to choose from including biscuits and gravy).

My husband and I stayed at the Austing Haus over spring break. It's location is great - just a couple of minutes from skiing. Their staff was friendly and their breakfast was wonderful. It was a great experience. The older building is beautiful with a lot of rustic charm.

After reading all the positive reviews I booked this hotel for a two night stay in Taos with my family of 4. We have two small kids, ages 4 and 8. We booked a loft room. First off, the ladder is steep and at the top of the ladder there is absolutely no fence of some sort around the open area to ensure no one falls. Not safe for under 6, even questioning that!

Additionally, this is a rustic hotel. I don't mind rustic, but it is not really clean! The pillows were yellow and did not have a pillow case protector. GROSS!

The front desk guy was super nice and tried to fix it the best he could. However, he seems to be solo in taking care of this place. This would be a great hotel for the show Hotel Impossible to come and "fix".

This hotel is rustic, needs updating, and most importantly the TLC that the original owner had for the unique building he built. Unfortunately, 30 years and 3 owners later, the hotel is deteriorating and not as it should be be.
