This is a nice resort that has something for everyone. Compared to Angel Fire and Red River, I would say this has the most features while at the same time it is not as overwhelming as the big resorts in Colorado. It was my wife's first time on a mountain and we decided to ski lessons. The instructors were great and were able to teach at everyone's level. The ski trails are definitely challenging but not impossible to run.
I loved the experience of skiing. If I had known better to buy waterproof gloves, I would have rated this as excellent.
Our experience at Taos Ski Valley was wonderful! First of all, it was a weekday late in the season so it wasn't crowded at all. We drove up there for the day from Santa Fe. We purchased our lift tickets online a couple of days beforehand. We were the only people at the equipment rental so the staff really took time to make sure our boots fit, etc. During our day, we never had a line at any of the ski lifts. Everyone who worked there was friendly and offered assistance. Taos is a tough mountain and proved more challenging (and fun) for us. Our teens (who'd only skiied once before) were intimidated by the beginner, White Feather green run and thankfully, the ski patrol offered to give them a ride back to the base. After lunch, our teens enjoyed the gentler Pioneer slope (more of a bunny slope), while we skied more challenging runs. It was the combination of great weather, no crowds and friendly staff that made this one of our favorite days of our 6-day vacation to Arizona & New Mexico.
Fantastic powder sunny days. Wonderful food on and off the mountain. Excellent guides and helpful staff
The double black runs are legendary and plentiful. The greens and blues are often more like interconnected cat trails. The black runs offer lots of bumps. Something for everyone.
Park in the lot and ride the shuttle, no need to walk. Just yell at the driver when your car approaches when leaving and they'll stop for you.
As an avid skier from Colorado I have always wanted to “Ski Taos” I don’t need to say much, the mountain speaks for itself! It is a challenge for even the most advanced “Expert” skiers... If you love the terrain that Arapahoe Basin offers, then you will love Taos!
Taos is a bit more challenging for the First time beginners ( The Ski School and Instructors will get you ready!). There are some very gentle green runs, however many of them on various locations on the mountain are “Colorado Blues” with respect to steepness, the good news is they are all groomed and steeper is better!!
Regardless of your level or “self perceived level” Taos has something for every one. If you truly are at the “Expert Extreme Level” Taos is tough to beat!
