“Great holiday, even for 'oldies'”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

We travelled in the first week of the school term in September so the Village was perhaps a little less busy. Reception was quick, if a little short on information. It shares that block with an adults bar at the site's southern tip, being a pleasant walk of about 300m to the restaurant block, which also opens out at its northern exit to a quiet shaded beach just a few paces across an otherwise quiet dead-end road. It’s often quite breezy, the temperature was high 70s – mid 80s every day.
All rooms are in small blocks dotted over the entire site; ours in the 200s was quieter, spacious, modern, well-appointed (although the air con is on a remote control with no instructions). It was kept clean for the entire stay, including free safe, fridge, water and cuppa makings. You will hear noise at night if you’re anywhere near the performance area, which is youngster oriented until quite late, by when some singers etc take over for the adults.
The site has loads going on with a total of 4 pools and several activities venues, all of which are well supervised; in fact I counted 21 First Choice staff at breakfast and was told they all had various roles on that site alone! They are attentive and organise themes most days to suit all the various ages of youngsters. We always found quiet corners though, when needed - the grounds being well kept and attractive.
The main restaurant is always clean, serving all the main meals to an extremely high standard, variety and choice, albeit with little or no ambiance. From 10am to 5pm there’s also a great help yourself snack bar, with good choice of hot and cold food, drinks and ice creams, both sets of staff friendly and attentive. Elsewhere are two other bars and shady tables where cocktails or hot drinks are served. There are a couple of alternative evening meal venues onsite, Greek, Italian and American, but not every night. The local strip is about a 10-15 minute walk away, but it’s only a relatively quiet place but with all the usual facilities.
Directly outside the northern end of the site is the bus stop for Kos city, leaving more or less to time about 10 times a day for 2 euros each way. Once there, you can catch regular services to just about every other village (and the airport) on the island. We hired a car and found the good main spinal road wide, with most minor roads also safe and well surfaced. That said, it’s the bicycle that rules here, with loads easily hired everywhere.
The main town is tidier than most of those on other Greek Islands; it’s low rise and well worth a walk (or cycle) around, a lovey mix of ancient ruins, modern shops and cafes. A ‘noddy train’ ride away is the island’s main archaeological site, which is an interesting couple of hours and great views for 4 euros.
We’ve been to most of the Greek tourist islands and this is certainly NO backwater. There really are some lovely views and quieter spots, and although modern, the island pace is a little slower. Now in our 60s, this was our first time here, and both the island and Atlantica Holiday Village provided a really great holiday (though we did choose to travel outside of the school hols). The departures at the airport should be better organised with more display screens and seats needed.

Room Tip: with so many different room types, email ahead if you prefer a quieter spot.

Firstly I have to start by saying that my daughter said this was her best holiday ever (just because she got together with another 3 friends).
We were in the family rooms with the sliding partitions , which were a nice touch and we had the most comfortable bed ever. The cleaning of the rooms could have been better also the sheet changes should haven happened more than they did.
We did not experience the problems with the sun beds as we arrived on the 18/09/13 for 1 week but heard of horror stories for other people saying 05:00.( nightmare).
The Kids Club Reps were fantastic and they can't do enough for your children.
We visited the amphitheatre where the evening entertainment was on once and stays for around 10 mins just so my daughter knew where we would be.(not for us ). We did find a serous lack of entertainment for adults on the evening. Ash and the daytime team would do their best to involve the grown ups during the day, some good fun was had .
The food and main restaurant was hit and miss. DEFINITELY NOT 4 STAR PLUS. The Italian was not even open and the Greek was ok.( just nice to be waited on for a change)

Overall this was a great holiday for daughter but we expected more from a 4 STAR PLUS , the choice and quality of drinks were a let down .

Finally this was too expensive of a holiday for it to be OK.

Room Tip: Family Room all day

Our family of three stayed at the Holiday Village Kos from 18/9/13 to 25/09/13.

First impressions of the site were excellent, its kept very clean and tidy by the hardworking ground staff and room service staff.
The pools (all three) are always presented lovely and clean each morning - this was certainly the most well kept hotel Ive visited in a long while. (though admittedly its gone through a major refurb in 2012)

The food was 'good', with the main restaurant serving a variety of food throughout the stay, with Mexican, Greek and other themed nights. I rarely struggled to fill my plate each day. The only disappointment was the so-called themed restaurants onsite. Apparently theres an American, Greek and Italian restaurant onsite? The American and Greek restaurants were basically a few open style bars with Chips, burgers and hotdogs for the American bar (which was nice for lunch but not much else) As for the Geek, well no one seemed to use it so we never went in as it was a dead atmosphere. The Italian restaurant appeared to always be closed?

We were a little unfortunate during our stay to have to contend with the First Choice Photography team shooting the Holiday Brochures for 2015. It appears First Choice prefer to pander to the needs of the photographer beyond the needs of their guests. People were asked to leave football pitches, empty sections of the pool, rearrange activities throughout the day, all because the photographers wanted to use the facilities.
Rather than make the photographers work around the guests needs and requirements, the guests were forced to work around the media team. This, I suppose is more a failing of First Choice than the resort though.

On the plus side, if the photographers arent there, you'll be treated to endless activities. Football, volleyball, Archery, water polo, its endless. The activities team onsite (which ironically are nothing to do with First Choice) are excellent!!! These guys made our holiday. From Sarah E, Chelsea, Tom, Jade, Rick and all the rest. To the night Entertainment Team: Sophie, Sarah H, Anna B Dave and Teddy.
These guys are the highlight of the holiday, I really cannot praise them enough for their dedication and endless enthusiasm.

We returned about a week ago from HV Kos after a fantastic 11 night stay with our baby daughter, 6 months, and son, 3. Last year we stayed at HV Rhodes and knew that another HV would be the easiest holiday option when traveling with a baby. We mainly chose this one because a free child place was on offer.
Transfer time from airport to hotel is very short, around 20 mins, which is great when arriving with tired children. Our room was a bit of a walk from reception but the first choice rep saw we were struggling with pushchair, etc and got somebody to take our cases to the room.
Our room was lovely and big, situated in a quiet location towards the beach. We were still only a few minutes walk from all the action though. We sat by the activity pool each day which was perfect. Next to the kid's club, very close to restaurant and snack bar, drinks station by pool, perfect! Day time entertainment was great and a much better set up than we saw in Rhodes, the activity pool was the focal point and something was always happening - but nobody hassles you if you really don't want to get involved. We enjoyed the music, daily quiz, party dances by the pool! I was impressed by how much energy the entertainment team put into it, it always felt like a party atmosphere. There are also impromptu kids activities separate to kids club like the water fight Ashley organised on the football pitch, our son loved it!!!!
Kids club was great, our son is not outgoing but loved it. Staff brilliant, they all knew both our kids names after a couple of days and were coming over for daily cuddles with the baby. Swim academy absolutely brilliant. Very impressed with Harry and Rick, they build a relationship with the kids out of the pool as well so the kids really trust them and think they're brilliant.
I thought the evening entertainment was brilliant too, silly but fun! Personally I quite liked the ampitheatre set up! Probably because it was quite quiet. It meant our son could stay on the floor next to stage, we would sit on seats at the top/back with the baby but could see him at all times and go to him when needed. He was under strict instruction not to go up and down the steps without us!
It was quiet, apparently 80% couples and kids definitely got a lot more attention from the staff because of this. I felt it was a perfect time of year to go, great weather but quite quiet. Absolutely no problem getting sun beds round activity pool, it was busier round quiet pools due to amount of couples.
Food was good, my only complaint would be maybe a little bland and repetitive after a while. The salads were the best thing, so much choice!
We had a fantastic time and would love to come back. Personally I prefer it to Rhodes, as more compact and daytime set up better. Rhodes obviously has the advantage though if you want a bit extra like a swim up room or deluxe area, as this is not available at Kos.

Just returned from Holiday Village Kos, first time at a Holiday Village Complex.
Room was on the seafront lovely view but constricted by a wind surfing cabin. Room cleaned every day fresh towels no complaints there clean and comfy. as not in the middle of complex very quiet would suggest couples go for these. Used quiet pool but was very cold ad suggests heated was not..

Complex itself ideal for families with children so many activities they all seemed to enjoy them.

Restaurant excellent compliments to all the chefs and staff there a huge variety and on the whole good quality. The Greek Restaurant however was dissapointing Beef Stifado was served with chips not the Stifado I know, the American Diner huge quantities of food enjoyed..Always food to be had throughout day.

Reps were always on hand but trips through Hotel slightly more expensive but were very enjoyable especially three island trip but bbq was only one kebab and a bit of salad...Marmari a small town enjoyable walk to and the bus service good into Kos but not between villages. Could do with a pharmacy on complex or in Marmari. overall enjoyed stay would in future visit again.

Room Tip: Couples go for seafront rooms 700 plus block

We arrived at our accommodation on time with little fuss.
Checkin at the hotel was very hectic and we were advised that as lunch was being served it would be a good idea to go and eat and then come back later to check in, we decided to wait as our 3yr old daughter was desperate to see all the slides etc.
although hectic, we had been given our keys within 15mins of waiting. I was advised that the previous customers had lost the safe key and this was unable to be replaced, we were also put on the 3rd floor with a 4yr old & 1yr old. None of this was acceptable to me, when I advised the reception of this they were very short & very rude - numerous conversations with the reps didn't help either although they did actually try to help us.
Other than this the room was great, we had a family room with a sliding partition (it was actually a door) my only issues with the room was the steps in it weren't safe for our 1yr old but once our door was mended this was no longer an issue. The beds were amazingly huge and sooo comfortable, although we were right at the back of the complex it only took 2 mins to walk to the splash pools and about 4mins to the main buffet which was perfectly acceptable.
The food was fine. The children's selection was pretty poor but there was always something new on the menu at the main buffet - I actually lost weight on holiday as I just couldn't get enough of the Greek salads :-) the staff (waitresses) in the main restaurant made my daughters holiday, they always fussed over the children - made them (and us) feel like we were the only people there and always had a beaming smile on their faces!
Entertainment although very repetitive was greatly enjoyed by both our children and if they were happy we were.
We didn't drink at all whilst away due to being run ragged by the kids so can't comment on this.
The reps, kids clubs, crèche were all FABTASTIC - these guys work so unbelievably hard that it really does make your holiday.
I would definitely recommend this holiday village to anyone.

We stayed the 11th Sept - 18th Sept 2013. Our party consisted of 2 adults and 1 child aged 2.

Having landed after a fantastic Thomson flight, we were directed to the transfer bus (on which we sat for over half an hour not good with a tired toddler!!) the fact the transfer took 13 minutes to the resort did make up for this a little!

Check in - our experience was a little chaotic. Although the reception staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the reception area is no way big enough for a coach load of guests plus luggage! What would have been a nice touch would have been porters who could have carried our luggage to our first floor room.

Room - we had family sliding door partition room - room 689 -which was on the first floor, overlooking the activity pool (just as we had requested when booked!). The decor is very modern and for a change looked exactly as described in the brochure / website. The size was adequate for a week and it was a nice touch to have 2 separate living areas. A big tip re the TV's.....we experienced a good few power cuts and surges each night and as a result we would suddenly wake up to find the TV's on!! The only solution was to ensure we unplugged the TV's at the socket which was a bit annoying!! We didn't really sit out on the balcony as the mosquito's were out in force during the night!! Bed was so comfy and big!! We both commented on how well we slept. Slight moan about the 'mattress' in our daughter's cot - which turned out to be a grotty piece of foam cut all ragged in half!! It has been said before about the cleaning of the room.....I really think this needs to be addressed as it was very hit and miss!! Some days the floor would be cleaned and other days it wouldn't. Some days you would have 15 towels in the room other days you would have 5! My daughter accidentally got some face paint on one of the single beds duvet covers on the 2nd day of our holiday. It was stripped off by the maid the following day and never replaced. Not sure if the hotel have now shook things up as on the last but one day we couldn't breathe for the smell of bleach in the room!!!

Food - first experience of All Inclusive and have to say very impressed with the standard of the lunch and dinner choice. Breakfast , however, not so good. I would expect fresh fruit cocktail selection not tinned!! I would expect fresh pastries and croissants not supermarket bought!! The salad selection for lunch and dinner was plentiful and delicious. I liked the fact that my daughter could stand at the kids buffet and choose what she wanted herself.
Another small gripe of mine is the fact that there is a sign on the entrance of the restaurant in the evening to say there was a dress code I.e no shorts. My husband and I like to dress up for dinner and found it quite amusing that a certain gentlemen wore the same black swimming shorts and white vest in the restaurant every day for a week for every meal!!
A true 4 star hotel would enforce this rule in the restaurant as at least 60% of the guests did choose to 'dress up'

Entertainment - to be honest we only watched the entertainment from 745pm till the end of the kids show. The venue is quite frankly awful and very dangerous. I know a lot of effort went into the entertainment by the staff but I can honestly say most of the singers couldn't sing!! We would be back in the room at 9pm cringing at the singing and I actually used to use my ear plugs to drown out the din (sorry first choice staff!!) the hotel would be advised to invest some money into proper family acts such as magicians etc etc. I did I fit most days and quite enjoyed it but we didn't join in much else as we went for a rest. Lots of activities going on though throughout the day.

Sunbeds - not a problem the whole week. Always got a lounger on the way to breakfast about 830am round the activity pool.

Activity pool - dirty, slippy tiles. Saw the pool cleaned once in a week. The kids seemed to love it although saw a lot of bruises on kids shins!!!

Crèche - Abi and George in the crèche were the best thing of the whole holiday. Our daughter loved having 2 hours out of the sun to make friends and paint, messy play.

Airport - the worst airport we have ever experienced. This is by no means Thomson or First Choice's fault the staff assisting on check in were great. The airport is no where near big enough for the number of passengers using it. No baby changing facilities and only toilets are upstairs which are filthy. A disgrace of an airport!!!

Overall we only booked this holiday for our daughter and she had a fabulous time....which is all that matters in the end!!
