All the rooms have wonderful views over the sea. The town of Taormina is a little distance away but the Riviera Travel coach was available as was the courtesy coach belonging to the hotel. The breakfast was comprehensive and the options at dinner were considerable. Lovely service from the staff. I discovered a new to me pasta sauce which was served as an option at dinner. It consists of tomatoes, sundried and fresh, basil leaves and almonds. with some hot chili flakes to heat it up. I loved it and have made it myself since I came home.

Very pleasant hotel with excellent sea view rooms. Food prepared by competent chef in front of you. Here as part of a Riviera Travel holiday near the end of the season. Cheerful staff. Over priced wine. Porterage good. Can be very noisy for some especially in the dining room.

Baia Taormina is a fine hotel, if you don't pay too much. The facilities are a bit outdated, but in the core this is a pleasant hotel with nice swimming pools and beautiful views.
Personnel is friendly and the rooms are clean.
The beach is far down the hotel, reachable through long stairs and tunnels. It takes 10 minutes to get there. No problem, if you are aware and fit.

Stayed here as part of a two centre stay organised by Riviera travel (tour of Sicily). The hotel feels a little dated and tired, not so much in the entrance/lobby/dining areas but in the quality of the rooms which seem to vary greatly depending on where you are allocated. Beware if you have mobility issues - the hotel is built into the side of the cliff and rises up to nine levels. If you are allocated a room on one of the upper floors be prepared to use three lifts and several flights of steps (although you will be rewarded with spectacular views of Taormina and the sea). Our room had a bath and shower but some of our party had a shower only, and there were rumours of some rooms having tea/coffee making facilities (which we never replenished) although I never actually spoke to anybody to confirm this! Air conditioning was efficient and the mini bar was well stocked (although never used during our short stay), the balcony was furnished with loungers, table and chairs and looked out to sea. Working out how to get the electric working took a while (the heavy metal key fob turned out to be the equivalent of the plastic access card that most hotels used and had to be dropped into a slot in the wall). A key operated safe was hidden behind a painting - took some time to find! Beds were very comfortable and despite evening entertainment from the bar area, we were never disturbed from our sleep. The room furniture/furnishings all felt rather dated.

Food is good, although when multiple tour groups descend on the restaurant, the staff struggle to keep the antipasti table topped up. There's plenty to choose from and we particularly enjoyed the barbecued meats and fish which were cooked ito order. There's a spaghetti bar which proved to be very popular as the chef cooks the dish selected to order (so queue up and be prepared to wait). Nice choice of desserts, especially the ice creams to round the meal off. Unfortunately because you are a captive audience the drinks are to my mind a little on the expensive side - cheapest bottle of wine 23 euros, water 3.50 euros, small bottle of beer 4 euros.

Staff respond well if you try out your Italian but all seem pretty good at English.

Two pools (one freshwater, one salt) that can be accessed by a lift or steps, with a nice outside bar and terrace where lunch and snacks can be bought if you stay on site. The hotel has access to a beach which we found easy to get to, although I wouldn't attempt the climb back if you have mobility issues or in the tremendous heat of summer.

Regular shuttle service to town which needs to be booked (preferably the night before and is very popular) so plan your day carefully. Buses stop on the main road outside if you can't get a seat!

We felt somewhat trapped in the hotel - there's really just the beach to walk to and if you want to sample a bit of the real Sicily, you definitely need to book that shuttle bus.

Room Tip: Lower floors if you have mobility issues

This Independent hotel offers the highest quality of friendly hospitality where everyone, from maid to General Manager, does their individual best to make sure guests have the best possible stay. As an Independent they don't move on within a chain but are rooted in providing the best at this hotel.
From Carmen's huge smile in the office, around Reception and in the Dining Room to Peppe at the pool( he works so hard all day!) Fabio's (BBQ) humour and Giovanni's style, engagement with guests and restaurant's service.

This hotel is set on a steep hillside with lifts at different levels, a shuttle bus to Taormina (book early) and the beach( use the 2 pools). Taormina is a delight and a major town for all your needs. If you use the beaches take the rubber water/beach shoes or buy in Taormina. Very sharp and stoney beaches everywhere).
We went to Catania for shopping to take home and gifts (forget it). We assumed that as the second largest city we would find lots of choice but not so. The bus journey was lengthy and like ALL service buses was late...we used the local service buses and Hop on Hop Off buses but found without exception, never working to the timetables!
The HOHO buses offer such a wide coverage they are the preferable transport in this vertical cliff faced area. Cars are very small because larger cars cannot access the streets and the sharp hairpins. We hired one for a couple of days but you need to be a very confident and experienced driver. Glad we waited until we had seen a lot of the area by bus so we knew what we were taking on. (Syracusa a highlight!)
We decided to upgrade to a larger room and balcony before we went and was very pleased we did. The room was great and the maid/housekeeping exceptional.
Buffet breakfast and Dinner , lunch too but we didn't go for that option( it is much like the dinner buffet only smaller). Bit disappointed with the buffets (why isn't the prepared fruit fresh in the morning?) All the buffets have lots of tinned foods( ughhh) but although we expected to eat out ( even on Half board) we enjoyed the BBQ fish and Meat each day which changed daily, and seemed to adjust to the buffet starters and lovely selection of cooked vegetable dishes hot and cold each day. As we were so far away from any other restaurants we decided we'd rather pay half board (in case) so we weren't stuck. Glad we did. We had fabulous lunches locally and so were able to try local food too.

We had a fabulous 2 weeks ,with lots of rain though-hence the local buses and were so impressed with every single member of staff that made the experience so good.

Room Tip: Go for a Grand Palace room with balcony.
