“Amazing staff! Beautiful rooms! Delicious food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2013

We travelled to Donsol with 12 family members (local Filipinos and Filipino-Americans) and were very impressed with this resort.

Resort: The resort only has 15 rooms which was a great size. All the rooms were organized around the pool. It was a very intimate set up and a great way to meet the other guests. The rooms were very simple, clean and peaceful. The all white decor complemented the natural beach setting. The rooms had warm water in the shower, mini fridge and TV (although we didn't use ours). Our room also had a view of the beach.

Staff: The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive.

Restaurant: All the meals we ate there were delicious - both Filipino and non-Filipino dishes. There are not many options nearby for restaurants and if you are only here for a few days, I suggest just eating at this restaurant. The menu is not big so if you are there for more than a week, you may start getting tired of the options. But everything was delicious and reasonably priced. (Local Filipinos will argue that the breakfast is expensive compared to what you pay for a similar breakfast in Manila)

I would suggest stopping by a grocery store on your way from the airport and buying drinks/snacks for your room.

Our 2 day stay here was amazing. We were very disappointed that we couldn't spot the whalesharks, but the resort more or less made up for it.

They have a well maintained pool, which is open until late night. Brilliant restaurant although a bit slow in preparing food even when we were the only couple on the resort. Very friendly staff.

Very close to the beach, a short tricycle ride to the Donsol and Ogod river where you can watch the Fireflies in the night.

The restaurant surprisingly had some very delicious vegetarian food, although a bit pricey.

Some rates to help other tourists.

Rental of Snorkelling equipment - 200 PHP
Ride to Ogod River and back in a tricycle - 200 PHP
Boat Ride in the Donsol River - 1250 PHP/boat (can accommodate 8 people)
Boat for whale shark spotting - 3500 PHP (3 hours - can accommodate 6 people)

Room Tip: Corner rooms are near to the beach, but have no beach facing windows.

We only can't to donsol to swim with the whale sharks and booked our four nights in this little resort through hearing about them in the plane over.
I must say the stay was wonderful, it's the cutest little place with a real relaxing vibe.
We ate lunch here most days and the food was wonderful..... The view is great and sitting in the hammocks as the sun went down was nice!
The swim with the whale sharks was one of the most amazing things we've ever done and we were so lucky with how many we saw up close, it was worth the trip a million times over!!!
Would definitely recommend staying here when visiting Donsol!

Just a nice place. Lovely atmosphere, well gardened, nice pool, sun chairs and good enough rooms. No fridge and limited hot water in your cabin to end your day with. Beds are a little bit tight for 2 europeans. Don't expect good snorkeling but you can go for a swim in the sea and hang out in the lounge area's close to the beach. The swimming pool is more comfortable though. The whale shark hunting is touristy and you need to be lucky to be there at a quit and sunny moment. i was able to see the amazing WS on every trip and you need to be a good swimmer to interact for a long time, but that is the challenge, right. Just go there for the whale sharks and you have a great time when you are lucky !

Room Tip: of course the ocean views are better but the rest is good enough, just be relaxed at the place and t...

We stayed here in mid February and, although we did see a whale shark (and a couple of manta whilst diving), we would definitely advise coming in the peak season of April where, apparently, sightings are far more common – we did speak to people who went home disappointed after seeing nothing. We stayed at the AGM guesthouse (see review) for a few days first then moved to Elysia, and the Elysia is in a different league. The rooms are quiet, clean, large and wonderfully bright with white walls and curtains, and huge windows, comfy beds and a good bathroom. The hotel restaurant and pool are also fantastic. The hotel can arrange whale shark spotting trips and diving but it is cheaper to go to the tourist centre - easy walking distance, where all the whale shark spotting boats leave from – just rock up and put your name down for a particular time/day and they will find other people to share the cost of the boat hire – or not, if you want a private boat. On the way from/to Lagaspi airport, take time to stop and get a view of the magnificent volcano that is featured on a Philippine bank note. We thought about climbing and might do so at some point in the future (although it did recently erupt, killing a few folk).

Room Tip: Room 1 (on the end of the horseshoe) was wonderful and sunny.

We stayed here for a few days in May. The food in Elysia is very good and the seating looking over the beach is fantastic. The rooms are simple but very nice, clean and modern and even have a couple of movies which you can watch if you want. The resort was very quiet when we stayed but I feel that it would always be quieter then the neighbouring resorts as there appear to be less rooms and alot of different places around for people to gather, ie – hammocks, day beds, pool, seating provided outside rooms and seating along the beach, etc. Also, other resorts appeared to have some loud pop music by their pools whilst Elysia resort just played soft non abrasive music during the day which was nice. We had complementary welcome drinks, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would recommend any to stay here and I would stay here again.

We stayed here for a few days in April and had a fantastic time, the resort is small and peaceful and the food is very good.
There's free wi-fi in the restaurant which wasn't too slow (fast compared to other places we visited).
We booked whale shark watching (unfortunately we didn't see any), diving and fire fly watching through Donsol eco tours, our rep there was Del and he was fantastic at arranging things, even for when we went back to Legazbi to see the volcano.
I'd definitely recommend it for a peaceful relaxing break.
