“A normal hotel, more like a mountain hostel standard”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

I would say it is adequate to the price. A small individual wooden cottages with so so view to the sunset. In the canteen-like restaurant the food was rather austere. They have free wifi access, they say it works in the whole object but in reality it works only close to the lobby. There is NO swimmingpool.

The bathroom was OK, the standard of the hotel I would say is hostel-like. I have to say I was freezing at night! And its hard to close the door, they should elaborate another closing door system.

To put it short: The hotel is correct.

If You stay there overnight only because You decided to stay in Kalaw and see the Pindaya Cave before, you can skip that part and go directly to Inle Lake from then. Kalaw its nice to stay for people who do trekking, otherwise for me at least it didn´t make any sense.

The hotel is situated on a hill with good views from many of the cabins and it was great to sit outside and watch the sunset. Beware. It can be very cold in the evening and early morning. Our bedroom was large and the single beds were new and comfortable but it was sparsely furnished. Only one bedside table and couldn't move the other bed nearer. It had an institution feel to it. the bathroom was large but the bath was so high in our room that it was very difficult to get in and out. There was no towel rail near the sink and in spite of plenty of space in the bathroom, there was nowhere to put toiletries or hang clothes.
We had a nice welcome on arrival with a band and dinner was quite good but again the dining roo felt institutional. Breakfast could be taken outside. It was chilly on the balcony but lovely in the sunshine with fine views over the valley. The eggs were cold and breakfast only average.
One night was long enough.

It seems that this was the best available accommodation in Kalaw. The bungalows were well presented (although the bathroom decoration was a little amateur) The staff did not seem that happy with life and the dining room was a bit spartan. Breakfast not exciting for people who like a reasonable english style - it was fried eggs on toast at best. The local dogs sit waiting for scraps thrown down to them from the outside dining area. We only stayed one night which was enough. Low star rating is justified.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Fantastic staff, lovely rooms (vary from newer to older) and bungalows, beautiful and meticulous landscaping. Hair dryer, space heater, fridge, kettle (for tea and coffee) in room, and plenty of blankets. And yes, fuzzy slippers. In-room safe for valuables. Power outage once but came back on very quickly. Very quiet with lovely views over the surrounding valleys. King bed, 2 free bottles of water, desk, chairs, deck, candles and flashlights, welcome drink upon arrival, and a clock in the room--only hotel in Burma to provide one! Also, thanaka in bathroom if you want to try the local style sunscreen. Finally, Kleenex/facial tissues in room-not the usual toilet tissue that's used throughout the country.

Only negative is distance from town. Require a cab to get there/back, but otherwise we were happy. Breakfast terrace had nice views. Breakfast very adequate and fillings.

Just make sure you have warm clothes if you come to Kalaw or Inle Lake in winter...the nights and mornings are COLD!

Would really like to stay here again.

My partner and I stayed here for just one night as part of a 14 day 'adventure' in Myanmar. We were fortunate enough to be staying in very good accommodation elsewhere but for our one day of hill-walking in Kalaw this was the only place which Trailfinders could book for us. It was rated as 2* in our itinerary so we didn't expect luxury but overall we felt it had some nice touches for something that felt like a cross between a Swiss villa and a Butlins cabana. We thought the staff were welcoming and the villa we had was pretty large and clean. Beds were well-presented and comfortable enough. The view of the forests with the mists was worth a photo or two. The big drawback for us was just how cold it was. We spent our time before and after in much warmer parts of Myanmar where we'd needed air-conditioning so this place was a bit of a shock in that respect. Make sure you ask for loads more blankets!

We scored an older villa, facing West. Reasonably well fitted out and most things worked well enough. Adequate hot water supply and a good bed were satisfying. Cold nights required that we had to pile on every available blanket and run the electric heater continuously. The fire place was unused. Breakfast - nothing special. Internet available. Laundry also available, quick and cheap. Beautiful gardens, wonderful views, friendly always available staff.

Our cabin was very charming. It had the basics, nothing very fancy but it was clean. We wished we had been told the power would be cut during the middle part of the night so we'd have been prepared with the extra blankets that are in the closet. It was FREEZING. We had the space heater on for a bit of warmth but when the power stopped I was too cold to get out from under the covers to look for blankets.

The (intentional) power cut also means no hot water when you first get up. So if we'd known that we'd have showered the night before. Maybe it's our fault for not expecting that or inquiring.

The location is very nice - sitting on our front porch or the lookout deck near the reception area - lovely views.
