The new owners are very friendly and made us feel very welcome in the pub-restaurant. It was nice that the 'locals' were also friendly, chatting with us at the bar when ordering drinks.
The food was simple, but well cooked, especially the vegetables with the lamb. There was a good selection of well-kept beers. We were able to phone and reserve a table, which was handy.

We went to the Castle on Good Friday & can only say it was a huge disappointment. Choice of food was poor & they had run out of so many things (only 2 puddings available). I dread to think what they were going to do if they were busy on Easter Saturday!
Such a pity as it's a lovely village & deserves a decent pub serving good food.
If the new( ish) landlords want to attract locals as well as visitors they need to up their game.

After visiting one day with my husband and small children we found the young bar man very rude whilst serving us our drinks ,we asked for menus to which he tutted like he couldn't be bothered he was far to busy drinking an chatting to his friends at the end of the bar. After taking forever to be served our drinks and order our food we sat down and waited ages for our food to arrive even tho there was no one else eating my sons food was cold and my chicken was still pink and raw inside we pointed this out but nothing was done again he was just very rude in front of our children so we just left I was violently sick for days after trying the chicken the whole experience was just horrible I advise anyone to stay well away !!!

Staying at Stoke Gabriel Lodging & not wanting to drive for miles we ventured out to this lovely pub. What a totally enjoyable evening, good ale & pub food, despite being a grockle we were made most welcome with the bonus of an amusing quiz night.
