5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2013

We stayed four nights in Stables, it was an amazing stay, the cottage was cosy and clean.

I had few surprises plan for my birthday that Pam have suggest to my fiancé when he checked what can be arranged .

The owners were very helpful, accommodating and gave lots of info about surrounding. We loved our stay .Thanks so much Pam & Ian! We will be back for sure and highly recommended for a couple retreat!!

We were seeking a quiet overnight stay in a secluded setting and were not disappointed. Previous reviews of these cottages do not exaggerate the high quality of this accommodation. Reading the one negative review and Pam's response was the final prompt for us to book this accommodation, as we felt reassured that here were owners who have a genuine commitment to ensuring that the ambience of the cottages is upheld for the enjoyment of all guests.
The cottages are tucked away down a long driveway, with a short walk through beautiful gardens after a very friendly welcome from Ian and Pam.
We stayed in Camillia Cottage which is set at the bottom of the garden with beautiful, lush garden outlooks from every window. So many extra special touches, too numerous to mention, including quality bed linen, a cute little downstairs (full) kitchen, with a private terrace. The chocolates, biscuits, port and wine were an unexpected surprise and the breakfast provisions extremely generous. An open fire in the bedroom added to the romance of the setting. Ian even googled directions for our destination the next day and provided a printed copy for us. I would recommend this B&B to anyone wanting to stay in a quiet secluded setting, with friendly proprietors who are willing to go over and above to ensure guest comfort and needs are met.

We stayed in the cozy 2-bd cottage featured on the homepage. It was the perfect retreat for us. The immaculate, well-appointed cottage and abundant gardens and grounds offered our family of four (2 younger children) a wonderful stay, and many comforts over the Christmas holidays. It felt like a home.

The cottages are well-situated apart from each other to provide guests with complete privacy, among mature trees and flowering bushes that surrounded us entirely with beauty from every window, and every pathway. This establishment is owners-occupied, and they have lived there for decades. The family takes care of every detail, graciously and respectfuly - willing to make any accommodation to ensure that we were happy. They were always nearby if we needed anything - like movies from thier DVD library back at thier house.

So many personal touches to be remembered: We arrived with a welcoming breakfast hamper of fresh local foods, milk, juice, cereals for the kids, and wonderful homemade bread. There were other treats, and what pleased my kids most - the little Christmas tree, where we placed thier gifts.

Well-appointed cottage: The bed linens were of high count cotton, the bedding/blankets were newer and freshly laundered - extra supplies stored in fresh-cedar lined armoires. Abundant supply of thick cotton towels/bath sheets. A spa tub that the whole family enjoyed, with ample hot water supply and essential toiletries. The fireplace and air-cons are tip-top, and functioned quietly. The crockery and supplies were intact, gas stove/oven functioning efficiently. As we did our own cooking mostly at the cottage, the equipment was enough to accommodate the family. There is no outdoor BBQ, however the broiler function in the oven worked like a charm.

The foot path behind the property led us throughout the area and to local parks/botanical gardens nearby, which we all enjoyed exploring. The location of the property is also ideal, as it is isolated from busier roads, and just close enough to the main arteries that run through Sassafras/Dandenong Hills.

Blissful and somewhat of a fairy land. Thank you so much for a perfect home away from home.

Room Tip: The cottages nestled at the back of the property are more secluded and have more garden space. Howev...

The Stables was a delightful place to end a long holiday traveling around SA & VIC. Our hosts were charming and very accommodating when our family opted to join us for a couple of days, nothing seemed too much trouble. The facilities were excellent. The location is peaceful and secluded but close to all the Dandenongs have to offer. Recommend highly.

We enjoyed 5 nights in Camillia Cottage. The large bed was really comfortable. The breakfast hamper was very generously packed (couldn't eat it all!) and the log fire and gas heating was most welcome. DVDs are available to borrow. My only gripe was the unheated bathroom. Pam & Ian are great hosts. Sassafras is lacking in good places to eat in the evening and we found eating lunch at one of the good restaurants in other towns or wineries was the better option with just a snack in the cottage in the evening.

I recently stayed here with my mother and two teenage boys. As it was my birthday, there was a free bottle of French champagne left in the fridge, which was lovely considering we already had free port and chocolates waiting for us! The cottage we had was Stables Cottage and it was absolutely divine. The decor was beautiful, the beds were comfortable, the fireplace was gorgeous and we wished we could have stayed longer. The fridge was stocked with eggs, bacon, tomatoes, fresh bread, milk as well as tea and coffee and biscuits. The owners were very friendly and helpful and I cannot believe a previous review that was negative about Ian and Pam - I found them to be completely delightful and so friendly and accommodating - they provided an extra roll-out bed for us at no extra cost and were very generous people. Great location close to everything to see at the Dandenongs.

We recently stayed at the cottages as we had a wedding near by. I was disgusted by how we were treated, I have never came across ruder owners/Managers in my life.

We arrived at the cottages with a few extra people in tow, only to get dressed and we were abused by the owners Ian and Pam, and they wouldnt allow close friends family to access our room to get changed.

Can i also add that Ian wouldnt allow my close friend into our cottage to feed her baby on the couch when it was raining outside.

I have never been treated like that in my existence. Disgusting. They made out that we were bringing a bus load of drunks into their B&B.

Can i add that the bed was tiny and our feet were hanging off the end. Eggs left for breakfast but no cooking facilities. So not sure how we were meant to cook the eggs?? Very over priced for what is was.

Really Disapointing - Will never go back or would not recommend in a million years.

I am appreciative that Tripadvisor allows owners to respond to negative feedback such as this as this is a classic example of a situation misrepresented.

The guest booked for 2 adults in our small Dovecote Cottage ($180 per night) but 8 adults plus a baby arrived without any prior notification. When we explained that we could not accept the additional people into the cottage they became rude and abusive but we stood our ground and refused to be intimidated by this group. They then proceeded to change their clothes in our driveway in front of other guests arriving. We make no apology for looking after the interests of our business and our other genuine guests and refuse to allow groups or parties of this kind to disrupt the tranquility of our beautiful quiet garden retreat

I am sure the readers of this review will understand the appropriateness of our actions.
