Nancy's casa is situated in Guanabo, a small town in the Playa de l'Este, a 30 minute bus ride west of Havana. We spent a memorable 12 days there in April 2011. I was looking for a location that would permit us to visit Havana but close to the beach so we could relax after a day of site seeing. We needed a casa large enough to accomadate my son and his girlfriend who joined us on the second week of our vacation. Nancy offers 2 air-conditioned bedrooms, a kitchen, dining and living room, washroom with shower and a fantastic back yard: the ocean. We were very comfortable and Nancy took very good care to ensure that we had everything we needed. She is a fine cook and her lobster, fish and frijole is beyond compare. Not to mention the ''small breakfast'' which was included with out stay. To our standards it was more than we could eat, fresh fruit, eggs, toast, jam and always some cuban delicacy.
Guanabo is a cute little town and the inhabitants are very friendly. Although our spanish is poor, during our walks we quite often found ourselves conversing with everyone in broken french, english, spanish, sign language and a lot of laughter. On one occasion, we so badly tried to converse with a man from Guanabo that finally the only phrase he could come up with was: Happy New Year ! And us Feliz Navidad! Our welcome was clear and we felt close to the Cuban people.
During our stay, we visited Havana on two occasions, Mantanzas, San Miguel de Los Bagnos (a must) and Las Terrezas, not to mention a lot of countryside and stops along the way. Nancy helped us tremendously with advice on buses, cabs and renting a car.
I highly recommend Nancy's casa: centrally located, very secure, nice beaches, good food, warm welcome.
And if you decide to visit, give our regards to Nancy and her family.
