no thanks to the amazing friendly international staff.. from Tone (the Thai GM), Lanna (the American Front Desk manager), David (the Australian Chef) and the servers, porters... this was probably what made the property so special, and not just because of the rooms.
this was an amazing property, with rice fields and vegetable patches on site. they endeavor to grow their own crops and even has a specialist from the Chiang Mai agricultural college to take care of this aspect. nice.
the food was excellent!!! Chef David is very proud of his dishes... and rightly so! he's especially proud of his homemade ice creams and desserts... which were to die for. i had the mekong mudcake (or something like that) and it was sinfully chocolate-y without being too overbearing, sweet nor heavy. my companion had the yogurt ice cream and an accompany cake which was very light and refreshing. we had a choice of lao or western menus... and having tried both, could not make up my mind which i preferred! although i asked for my lao salad to be mildly spicy... it still turned out to be sweat-inducing spicy... but finished every bit of it because it was just that yummy despite my painful palate because of my intolerance for chili. and for breakfast, had waffles! and freshly squeezed orange juice. perfect.
the room was very pleasant and had all the mod cons... except for the bathroom. there were...no thanks to the amazing friendly international staff.. from Tone (the Thai GM), Lanna (the American Front Desk manager), David (the Australian Chef) and the servers, porters... this was probably what made the property so special, and not just because of the rooms.

the room was very pleasant and had all the mod cons... except for the bathroom. there were both indoor and outdoor showers. had wanted to try out the outdoor shower but it was full of large moths, beetles, spiders, crickets so decided against it. well what was i expecting... it's the outdoors after all! the indoor shower was a really small space and the towel hooks were inconveniently placed, so had to turn the shower to a corner to prevent my clothes from getting wet. also, even the bathroom door (that does not lock) was frosted, when it got wet due to the shower, you could still see the person inside. not for the very shy and self-conscious. this is the only reason why i gave Rooms a "Very Good" rating instead of "Excellent".
other than that, the room was just absolutely lovely. cable TV, spacious rooms, amazing river views in the morning, a/c, no power trips, comfortable beds...
you could also take a barge across to Ban Muang pier on the other side of the river if you wish to head down to the Khone Phapheng falls (about 1.5hrs drive south). or on the same side of the resort, it's just about a 10-15 minute drive to Wat Phu Champasak ruins.
am even thinking of...More
