“Great Mekong Hideaway”

Rai Saeng Arun is a small resort in a wonderful setting, The bungalows are both stylish and comfortable, and very clean. The outdoor bathrooms have powerful showers, always a big plus in smaller resorts. The food served on the riverfront terrace was excellent, based on the produce from the resorts well-tended gardens, and great value for money. The staff were always happy and eager to help. Nalee, who served us on the terrace, was a delight. We'd love to return.

Walking though the rice field and claiming up the ladder through the bamboo forest might be a bit of a challenge for you but trust me, it's really worth! Up the hill, I could really relax on the massive size balcony; soaking myself under the warm sunlight and the cool breeze of winter and listen to natural sound bamboo & birds.

This resort may not have the fancy luxury decoration that make your jaw dropped or serving the super delicious food and providing world class service spa. But what really distinct this resort from other is their hearth - I can feel the owner is really running this place with "love and care".

The food served at the resultant were also very delicious - rice and some vegetable were grown right there at the resort. Some Thai food might be too spicy for some - please tell them if you can not eat dinner. Dinner tent to be serve early (kitchen close at 0700 PM) - but this due to nature of Thai (we eat dinner early).

Room Tip: Resort offer bangalows in 3 different location; on the bank or Maekong River, at the lotus pound and...

The room was a bit of a walk from the Reception area, but was in a wonderful setting overlooking the rolling hills. A distant view over the Maekong River to Lao from the spacious balcony, and as the sun dropped no other lights to be seen let alone any other buildings. Truly a magical setting, lovely spacious rooms with all the extras, out door showers, and huge balconies. First night we had excellent Thai food served in our room, second night was a bit of a rush to be back for last orders at 7pm, and though late we still got fed.
Excellent Breakfast served overlooking the river.

Room Tip: the further you walk the better the room

We have stopped here maybe a dozen times...for lunch at the beginning of our 14 day bike tour through Laos. It's first class. The food is terrific. You order something and they will start scrambling in the garden for the ingredients. The rooms look great and the location on the Mekong is wonderful as well. I would not hesitate to spend time here. It is by itself though. You will be able to hike around or bike, but there is no town to visit or anything like that. You will need a vehicle or have to hire a tuk tuk to get there and back.

Room Tip: Try for by the river.

We stayed here en route to Laos. We organised transport via the hotel from Chiang Rai airport and then on to the border the following day.

The place is very smart and tidy and seemed to have a number of Thai families staying. We stayed in a riverside room, which was well designed and had a lovely balcony over the Mekong. The only gripe is the beds are rock hard.

Rai Saeng Arun grow a wide range of organic vegetables and fruits and the food was outstanding and served on a terrace overlooking the river.

Owner and staff very friendly and helpful, although it helps if you know a bit of Thai/can use a pharsebook as their english is not great.

We would certainly recommend this place over hotels available at the border.

Room Tip: Try to get a riverside room, other foods overlook picturesque fields but are a long walk away from t...

This place is special. Absolutely incredible view from our riverside bungalow. The service and food was amazing- fresh vegetables! We stayed here after 3 months of budget traveling, and it was worth every penny. To laze on the day bed, watching the sun go down over the river was one of the most magical moments of our trip. Thanks to the staff for the friendly service, and hats off to the chef, who is obviously fantastic. If you are like us, and in Chiang Khong to cross the border, please take a few days to enjoy this place. You will not regret it!

It is difficult to review Rai Saeng Arun - as it is such a different experience. Far away from everything at the banks of the Mekong river with the most neatly kept vegetable gardens I have ever seen. And a long, long, long walk along the rice fields, up 165 steps (we counted them), further along a trail in the hills - until we reached our small cottage. The next cottage was very far away. Total privacy and quietness - pristine!
The food in the restaurant was yummy, lots of salat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And great strawberry smoothies (I think we emptied the strawberry field by having so many of them, sorry about that!). And thank you to the very kind host - who arranged transport for us and sent us to the greatest little textile factory. And just one piece of advice: our host tried to tell us, but we just wouldn't listen: don't plan a one day trip to Laos. You have to buy visa even if you just want to be there for an hour. And the price of a visa is about $35 per person + photos. It doesn't make sense if you just want to go for a daytrip.
I recommend Rai Saeng Arun as an extraordinary experience. But don't come here expecting luxury (you can get that somewhere else).
