Kudos for the work that has gone into the craftsmanship and ambience of the lodge. Without a doubt, a welcome oasis in this part of the country. The service was alright, though with a touch of laissez-faire attitude but passable. The drink choices on our last visit were a but limited, and frequent power interruptions clearly affected the food menu variety and quality in some cases. However, we would still give it another shot, hoping things improve.

We have been to Ziwa Bush Lodge a few years ago and the service and food was so poor that we haven't been for 6 years. As Kembu Cottages were full this weekend, we decide to give Ziwa another chance.
Although the rooms are comfy and clean, the food is poor and that's why I am writing this review.
Chicken tikka masala was served on a skewer with fries. The chicken was cold.
This morning both coffee machines were 'broken' so only instant was available.
My husband is allergic to milk, and although the staff were informed of this before we arrived, everything on the evening menu included some form of milk. Thankfully, the chef was able to help and give him some steak, but it was overcooked.
This morning for breakfast, my husband was served mushrooms with his breakfast. We are assuming that they contained milk in some form as he has been ill since.
At no point did anyone come and ask us how our food was.
Further points. to add: wifi in room is weak.
Children are swimming in the pool unsupervised. We are not sure if they are staff children or local children, but although they were having a great time, we were concerned for their safety.
The local church starts at 6:30am on a Sunday - so don't expect to sleep in.
Mould is evident on the tent ceiling.
Shampoo, body lotion and shower gel are provided but no conditioner.
Bath / shower towels were provided but no hand towels.
Hot water bottles in the bed were a nice touch.
Overall, at $270 for one night, a most disappointing stay.

We loved this place! The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was beautiful. The turndown service with the hot water bottles made for a nice comfy bed after a full day exploring nearby Nukuru National Park.

Room tip: All are beautiful!

Beautiful locale, well maintained, comfortable, clean rooms and very friendly staff. However we did not get any to eat the night we reached.Inspite of informing the hotel in advance that we do not eat beef and pork that was the only thing available in the menu. Finally the chef dished out vegetables that were not cooked and in edible.

The lodge is the beaten path with last 2km a bumpy dirt road. The lodges are very nice with large bathrooms and hot water. They have a turn down service where hot water bottles are put under the sheets. The kitchen / dining is fantastic. There’s a fireplace with seating to relax in the evening. The chef is top notch as this was literally the best food I’ve had in Kenya.
