We have been to Ziwa Bush Lodge a few years ago and the service and food was so poor that we haven't been for 6 years. As Kembu Cottages were full this weekend, we decide to give Ziwa another chance.
Although the rooms are comfy and clean, the food is poor and that's why I am writing this review.
Chicken tikka masala was served on a skewer with fries. The chicken was cold.
This morning both coffee machines were 'broken' so only instant was available.
My husband is allergic to milk, and although the staff were informed of this before we arrived, everything on the evening menu included some form of milk. Thankfully, the chef was able to help and give him some steak, but it was overcooked.
This morning for breakfast, my husband was served mushrooms with his breakfast. We are assuming that they contained milk in some form as he has been ill since.
At no point did anyone come and ask us how our food was.
Further points. to add: wifi in room is weak.
Children are swimming in the pool unsupervised. We are not sure if they are staff children or local children, but although they were having a great time, we were concerned for their safety.
The local church starts at 6:30am on a Sunday - so don't expect to sleep in.
Mould is evident on the tent ceiling.
Shampoo, body lotion and shower gel are provided but no conditioner.
Bath / shower towels were provided but no hand towels.
Hot water bottles in the bed were a nice touch.
Overall, at $270 for one night, a most disappointing stay.
