“Worth the few extra steps”
Reviewed July 17, 2012 via mobile

Like most people we went for the Ninja museum, and almost passed up the castle but we were glad we didn't. It is a pretty nicely reconstructed castle with great views. It also has a really impressive and expansive collection of Samurai armour and weapons. In fact, I think it was the best collection we saw in Japan. Most likely, if you (or your kids) are interested in ninjas you'll enjoy the castle.

“Nice castle”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

I liked the top floor and the artistic tiles on the ceiling. The arrow-based decorations were a nice touch, as was the photo machine to photoshop yourself in a traditional outfit.

“Pretty reconstructed castle”
Reviewed February 4, 2012

You would probably visit Ueno Park for the Ninja residence and museum, but once there, it's only a few minutes' walk to this pretty castle. It is a recent reconstruction, but rebuilt in wood rather than concrete, so it has a lovely, authentic feel.

On the ground floor there is a great display of samurai armour and weapons. You can, for free, dress up in plastic reproductions of the armour and have your photo taken. :) There are 2 floors above, which contain more exhibits and art works. The top floor has a beautiful painted, panelled ceiling. Each panel is different and might show birds, flowers, clouds, symbols or something equally lovely. There are hundreds of panels so it takes a while to appreciate them all!

The stairs are quite steep and we didn't notice any elevators, so this might be worth checking first if you have any mobility issues.
