“Great location, helpful staff”

This basic but pleasant guest house is on the Magome to Tsumago trail. Its possible to get here by JR bus from Tokyo but the drop off on the highway is probably a 30 minute walk uphill. Note: its impossible to find in the dark so arrive during the day light if you plan to walk. It is possible to take a connecting bus, but they are not very frequent and only run till about 1800.

The guest house has about 12 traditional guestrooms, The guests share the washing facilities. There are 12 toilets - 6 for men and 6 for women but only 1 bathroom for each.
Now I mention these facilities because if like me you want a quick shower and the guest house is full you can wait a long time for the bathroom. The traditional open plan bathroom has 3 showers and a hot tub and if a family is in there you can wait at least 45 minutes before it becomes free. On one night I waited over 2 hours walking back and forth to see if it was available, in the end I sat outside and waited.

The rooms have heaters and air-conditioning, television and you make up your futon yourself. Sheets show sign of wear and towels are available for a charge. There are two computers for guests to use, and green tea and instant coffee for guests to make when they want. There is also a kitchen where it would be possible to cook.

Food is served at 6 and there is a bell to tell you its time to go across the path to eat. The food is excellent so do eat here, presentation of the food is amazing and everyone got out their cameras to take pictures.

The staff, who speak English, are incredibly nice and very helpful when you have a problem. I would certainly stay here again, though I would try and get into bathroom before the 8-10 rush.

i've stayed there for 1 night cause i didn't have other choice, i had to make up my own bad, the room wasn't clean, bath and toilett were very poor and not so clean.
everything close up at 1700 and there is really nothing to do around, no resturant no nothing so if you do plan to stay buy food before hand.
the only thing that was really worth it is the trip to tsumago, amazing place to hike and beatifull view.
i'de recommand to get there realy early and hike from magome to tsumago or even farther up and finish early so you don't have to spend the night there.

There are nice and fresh showers available. The rooms are simple Japanesestyle rooms but we've got nothing to complain about.

The food was great. And DON'T FORGET TO BOOK BREAKFAST AND Dinner. There are NO restaurants open after 5pm in neither Magome or Tsumago.

Staff was friendly, preferred this place over the Ryokan we stayed at in Tsumago.

Very nice atmosphere, very clean with owners very kind and nice. There is a computer with internet available to guests, useful. No wifi. Very nice the common room where you can meet and talk with other guests. The dinner is just great (also the only option available for dinner in whole Magome), very good quality. Just watch out, you have to book it!

Room Tip: Corner room is very nice, you get a very good view on Magome main street.

After staying in Tokyo for 5 nights which was incredible but exhausting, this relaxing little guesthouse tucked up in one of the most beautiful villages I've ever seen was a real treat.
The family who run it are so trusting, there isn't any customer service to speak of, they just leave you to it. One of them speaks very good English and was so helpful and informative.

The rooms are beautiful. The futon beds are soooo comfortable that I struggled to get out in the morning. And no bed bugs!

Also the traditional baths are great.
I loved it. Been travelling Asia now for 3 months and this place is definitely in my top 3 places I've slept! (The other 2 being in Siem Reap and Ayuthaya)

Lovely place! Me and my husband loved this place. We stayed for 3 nights , and would like to thank Jenn for the great service. The food was delicious and the guesthouse simple but quite up to standard. Also magome is absolutely beautiful.

By ryokan standards and prices this one is at the low end. It offers little luxury. You find yourself wondering why you're paying more than hotel room prices to sleep on a hard floor in a tiny room with no curtains or bathroom and in the cold. Lovely evening meal however, and excellent mid village location. Lovely walk to Tsumago from here (bus back). Glad we only stayed here 1 night.
