“Solid food with reasonable prices”
Reviewed May 14, 2012 via mobile

I have eaten there several times over the last 6 years. It has grown and changed from simple food, to a more complete menu. Presently, it is worth a visit, but avoid busier times. It is very popular with locals and neighboring towns.
Pleasant staff.
Being an American, I am used to American restaurants with hovering wait staff. So the slower paced service, can weigh on me, when I prefer to eat and go.
The German style of going to a restaurant to talk and relax, is just different. So if you are short on time, go to an Imbiss.
But as German restaurants go, this is a fine place.
Check out their store which sells items from the related farm and vineyard.
If not too crowded, it can be a fun stop.
The town of Fischingen, just north of the restaurant is small but quaint.

“Great value for money, but noisy”
Reviewed April 30, 2012 via mobile

This restaurant is conveniently close to Basel and a popular destination for many living in the Basel area. The food is great and of an excellent value (the steak can be a bit tough, but much better value than anything in Switzerland). There is a nice playground for kids outside. The place is huge, but always crouded. Expect to wait to get a table and share it with others. The waiters are all very young and it sometimes takes some time for them to take your order (or bring the bill), but once you get to order, the meals come very quickly.

If you are good at getting a table and getting the waiters' attention, and don't mind the noise, then the place is definitely worth going to. We go quite often.

+ Food, choice of deserts, the steak, playground, apple juice, price, location in idyllic farmland, they use lots of locally produced farm products
- Noise, getting the table system, sometimes speed of the service

“A family restaurant, and not for a romantic dinner!”
Reviewed March 8, 2012

Restaurant was extremely busy, but quality of service and food was first class. It's situated about 20 minutes from Basel, and I noticed that quite a few people were from across the border in Switzerland. A bustling atmosphere, and better suited to families and groups of colleagues, rather than a romantic dinner.

They have their own vineyards, and make their own wine on the premises. We chose to have a different wine with each course, and they were all good.

Adjacent to the restaurant is a large shop, at which they sell their own and local products.

“Fantastic food for fantastic price in great space.”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

Can't say much except that you probably won't regret going there. Prices are a steal for the quality od the food. Dishes are simple, but very tasty. You have a broad selection of cakes and pies and the freshly pressed apple juice is a must. We just loves it.

“Great food at great prices”
Reviewed January 8, 2012

We visited Fünfschilling between Christmas and New Year's. That may have been a mistake, as the restaurant was very full. There is no host or hostess, and you are left to yourself to find a table. When it is full, that means hovering around people who are preparing to leave their table.
Also, when they are so busy, the service can be a little slow.
However, we liked the casual atmosphere, the food was very good, and the prices were below average, so a very good value. The house wine is just acceptable, but a bottle costs what you pay for a glass in Basel.
