Mex-Eco offers a number of different tours, but the turtle experience has to be one of the coolest things I've ever done. Where else can you help baby turtles hatch and release them into the ocean? The day trip to the coffee cooperative was also a very interesting tour and coffee and lunch were great. The walk through the coffee groves smelled sooo good. Check out their website for all the different tours they offer. It's well worth your time and money!

in Melaque, Mexico, this would be it! Some local friends invited us to go along with them to see an extra-ordinary village, high in the mountains, where a group of indigenous women were harvesting and roasting old growth coffee. The tour was led by Mex-ECO co-founder Daniel Patman (a marine biologist), a delightful man. The full day tour included transportation, an interesting and fun tour of the village, the cooperative, and the roasting facility. The women fixed us lattes and coffeecake, then the tour (which included a walk around the coffee groves & jungle), and then a lovely lunch. Their small gift shop also offered their honey and other foods as well as a few embroidered pieces. Mex-Eco's website shows you other tours they offer. Any drawbacks? This is not a Butterfield & Butterfield tour; this is a very good, friendly, affordable day trip that you wouldn't do on your own. The van is air-conditioned if it's hot outside, and strangers on the tour soon become acquainted.
