“Not happy in Scotland”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

We stayed here for 1 night in September 2013. The room was very small, the wifi worked if you stood in the hallway. The dinner was overpriced and not terribly good. The staff were indifferent and the whole experience was an expensive disappointment.

Myself, my wife and our friends were heading north for a weekend autumnal sight seeing and hoping to eatt good food and sample a few pleasant whiskies. On leaving the A9 at Aviemore we phoned ahead to the Craigellachie Hotel and asked the very pleasant receptionists if there was any room availabiity. Luckily there was.We were met at reception with a smile and after checking in were told where our rooms were. The roome were very comfortable and after a quick freshen up we went down to the Quaich Bar. The whiskies on offere were tremendous from simple blends to £250 classic drams, around 650 choices in all! We were looked after by the bar man then went through for dinner. The meal was very well presented, of excellent quality and served by two very pleasant waiters, a lovely culinary experience. Afterwards we retired to the library for coffee and a nightcap and retired for a lovely evenings slumber. Breakfast on Sunday was very relaxed and again of a high quality. After collecting our luggage the same young lady who checked us in saw us off on our journey after a relatively painless experience paying our bill. All in all a very good country hotel, perhaps a little tired in decor but more than made up for by the pleasant staff and good food. We will be back.

What a good decision to stay here. This is an old hotel but in good conditions which lets you relieve the good old days of whiskey trading.
We took the whiskey tasting with an expert there which was a highlight of our honeymoon.
The whiskey bar is also worthy a trip to this place.
We had the suite which has a big room atop the hotel. Worth the money extra spent.

We have just returned from a 2nights DBB and 1night BB package booked through Classic Britain. The hotel is an old building and with a shabby exterior in places, however inside it was very clean and comfortable with a certain quaintness. The staff were pleasant and helpful, we felt the food to be good although not exceptional, there was little change in the menu on the 2 nights we dined in the main restaurant, for that reason we tried the bar meals for our third night which had a larger choice. Overall we considered our stay good value with the Classic Britain package.

The hotel is beautiful and it was fun to stay in such an old building. The whiskey bar was the most amazing I have ever seen and I loved the fireplaces throughout. Maybe not worth the price overall though.

Very enjoyable stay at this hotel!
Staff were very pleasant and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable.
The food was very good, but the dinner menu was limited and did not change during our two night stay. Breakfast was a choice between continental / cooked - if you wanted both there was a supplement. We are used to having at least a bowl of cereal before a cooked breakfast, without paying extra!
Overall, our experience was very good, and we would definitely go back!

This was a very impressive country hotel with a whisky collection to die for.

The staff were very friendly and the wifi was hassle free and provided complimentary.

Unfortunately when we wanted to eat in the bar downstairs at 4pm we were told there was no food available (not even bar snacks like crisps!) so we ate at the old Glenavon Hotel now called the Highland Inn.

It's a shame we couldn't stay more than one night and enjoy the world famous Quich Bar which I think is being renovated.
