“A romantic break”
Reviewed August 29, 2011

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night. The room was perfect with a 4-poster bed and lovely double jacuzzi bath. Breakfast was delicious. The only negative for me was the 10.30am check-out time which meant we had to rush our jacuzzi!

To be clear I haven't stayed at this hotel, however, I felt compelled to add this review as I have just phoned this hotel in order to make a booking enquiry and was shocked by the poor customer service I received. I think I must have spoken to the owner who is mentioned by a few other reviewers on this webiste. I was very polite in asking about their special offers (even complimenting the hotel) yet all I got in reply was abrupt rudeness and inpatience. The man I spoke to obviously had no interest in our custom despite there being more than one room available at this hotel for those dates. I'm so disappointed not to be staying at the hotel as it looks amazing but I do not wish to give this man my money or to risk having our stay potentially ruined by his inhospitable attitude.

Room Tip: Book at a different hotel

We have just returned from a wonderful weekend in shropshire to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and must say our experience at the Rectory was 10/10. Our room was better than we had imagined, everything here is spotless, great service from great staff. We had booked a three course meal for the evening and the food was exceptional. We have eaten at many top restaurants and the food and presentation was easily on par with these. The choice at breakfast surpassed any other hotel we've stayed at and owner David couldn't be more helpful, including offering us a lift to the town and giving us great advice on local places to visit. We will certainly be returning to this hotel in the near future and would recommend to anybody who wishes to have a wonderful weekend at a wonderful guest house in a picturesque location.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and cannot speak highly enough of the service and attention to detail provided by the owner and his staff. We were very pleased with our room (Shrewsbury Room) which was full of character and very cosy (not like the usual hotel rooms you may encounter) The food provided for both breakfast and dinner was of excellent quality and if you go hungry at this establishment it can only be your own fault as the choice was varied with plentiful portions. This was a good base to view various attractions within the area (Ironbridge Gorge Museums,Broseley,Much Wenlock,RAF Cosford Museum).

Room Tip: Can't say as we did not see all of the rooms but ours (Shrewsbury)was really good

Had two nights in the B and B in July 2011, food excellent, had to preorder dinner as they only serve to residents. There were only 4 of us in the restaurant which left the atmosphere lacking somewhat - I think some music would have helped. Service brilliant, very accommodating - nothing too much trouble. Cleaniless very good, attention to detail excellent. Gripes - our room was right next to the entrance to the house and the restaurant, this meant that you could hear all comings and goings; the owner was a bit intense, if you enjoy a good political debate, great - not what I wanted on my romantic break. He did like the sound of his own voice.

Room Tip: Our ground floor room had a four poster and a double jacuzzi in the room - loively - number 6.

The hotel was ok but the customer service from the owner was, in our opinion, greatly lacking

The hotel looked very good from the website but the rooms were misrepresented on the website with claims of accommodation details which were not true. These claims were also made over the phone. We also understand from the AA that he allegedly pulled out of their scheme 3 years ago but is still displaying their signs.

Unfortunately, we made the mistake of giving credit card details by phone. We never got a receipt for any transaction. We told David Hoyle immediately on arrival of the discrepancy between his website and phone claims and the reality of the accommodation. He immediately changed his friendly tone and became what we perceived to be hostile. We felt we were treated as a nusiance rather than customers. We left first thing next morning but he still charged us, without our knowledge and permission for 2 extra nights (there were no terms and conditions on his web site at the time to state he was entitled to do this) and never told us or gave us a receipt.

Beware - don't give your credit card details over the phone - our details were kept on file and used without our knowledge and permission !

Room Tip: Do not give your credit card details over the phone. Ask for a receipt for any transaction

I travelled alone with my two children and felt extremley welcome and it was a home from home experience, with the added bonus of a exceptional breakfast daily. The staff there are more than accomadating and are really good at keeping the place very clean and tidy. The ludlow room in which we stayed was beautifull, and the bathroom was a real luxury, I also liked the fine deatils, everything has been thought of, from dietry requirements to toiletries and even lollies for the kids, we will be back, thank you again. Its also in a perfect spot for visiting the local ironbridge and museums, well worth a visit.
