The chicken soup here is great, and the casados are great, but this is basically a hole in the wall and you should never eat here if the tourist trade has been slow... the food won't be fresh. At all. I got sick as a dog off-season from the chicken. So, sometimes it's a fantastic place to eat and sometimes... just NO.

Good solid home cooking at a more than fair price. The place looks awful, cheap crap hanging on the walls, but the food is good. Also a great selection of fruit drinks. The casados are good and the guacamole is great.

Eating at a "soda" is something everyone visiting Costa Rica should do. This is a small, family run business with dad out front, the 13 year old daughter helping to wait tables and mom and other family back in the kitchen. Super cute setting just a block from the beach. The food was extremely inexpensive with huge portions and quite delious! Our family of five ate for about $30 with bottled water or sodas. We got:
Fried rice with shrimp
Beef and onions casada (with rice and beans)
Beef and onions with potatoes (french fries)
Seafood pasta (which was odd for our taste as the red sauce was a bit like tomato soup)
Vegetarian platter with salad, whole avacodo, plaintain chips, etc.

Highly recommend this wonderful friendly place!

An authentic soda with good food at a good price. We had breakfast here and were very pleased. My huevos casado was cooked perfectly, and my fiance's breakfast platter (I forget what it was called but it had a little of everything) was tasty--and enough food to keep us going through the afternoon. Definitely worth a try!

We just got spent a week in Brasilito and ate here three times. It's nothing fancy, but it's charming and festively decorated with strings of lights and a variety of colorful plaques and pictures of fish and birds. The food is very good and you get a lot of it for a very reasonable price. It was by far the most inexpensive place we ate in town, and there were always local families eating there. The dinner salads are huge and very nicely arranged, and the casados are good and hearty. The fried rice with mixed seafood was a little salty for my taste, but the portions were extremely generous and included fish, a rock lobster tail, shrimp, squid, mussels, and two whole small crabs. The owner is a very nice guy who gives you attentive service and was visibly delighted to host us and the other gringo tourists who ate there. We also enjoyed the kitties and dogs that the owner allows to hang out there. They're always on the lookout for handouts, but they don't pester you and they put on quite a show wrestling and chasing each other around. We will definitely go back next time we're in Brasilito.
